Y’ALL GET ON OVER TO THIS BOOK!!
The Cards of Chaos is a debut novella by my wonderful friend, @lostinnebuloustime featuring art by @kitmizeresart. I’m so proud of them and so excited to share their work with y’all.
“Fifteen-year-old Cebina Beckstrand is selected in a ritual drawing to be sacrificed to a shadowy being known only as the Jackal, who dwells somewhere in the wintry wilderness outside her small village. She expects, based on rumors, to be devoured by this creature, or worse—but the fate that awaits her is far stranger than she could have imagined. Who is the Jackal? Why does he torment the villagers with his cruel demands? And what is the nature of the card game he plays…?”
doing this one separately cause I like it so much. :) Beleg & Túrin

This was a small project I did about all the weird homespun mythologies we have in our house. They’re mostly centered around my lovely partner and all the little stories he makes up for our stuff-- like the creatures that inhabit his notebooks or the demon that lives in our blanket (his name is Mephistophefleece and he feeds off body heat). The tea we love most is a lil brew called Sympatea, which consists of lemon, honey, fresh mint, and a little something extra-- something like alchemy. The last picture is something called the Dream Orange. A long time ago he had a dream about the perfect citrus, and when he woke up the taste was still sharp on his tongue. He’s been searching for it ever since, though who knows if he’ll ever find it. Closest he’s come has been orange starburst, weirdly enough.
Anyway thought I’d share these little doodles with y’all. :3
Jan Hus Goes to the Movies
This is a little project I did last year that I’m only now getting around to posting. Jan Hus (John Goose in Czech), a 13th century Bohemian, is one of my favorite historical figures. The protestants like to claim him as one of their early martyrs (he was burned at the stake during the Council of Constance in 1415) even though he was staunchly Catholic and far from the most radical voice of the time. He’s been labeled post-Reformation as a sort of proto-reformer, and Martin Luther definitely credits Hus’ legacy in his own thinking and works. (At Leipzig, during Luther’s famous debate with John Eck, Luther famously states “Ja, ich bin ein hussite!” or “Yes, I am a hussite!) Hus, however, doesn’t necessarily strike me as the type of person to like the “proto-reformer” label, and I think he’d be more than a little horrified to learn how his work has been co-opted into anti-Catholic rhetoric not only by protestants but also later by the Soviets, who used his story as propaganda. While Hus pushed heavily for ecumenical and social reform, ultimately a lot of his legacy and what he hoped to leave behind was swallowed up in violence and war, namely the famous “Hussite wars” of 1419-1434. I’ve always wondered what he’d think of what happened next, and if he’d think it was worth it.
So naturally I took him to the movies to find out.
