In 1 Timothy 1:19, the Apostle Paul urges Timothy this: "Cling to your faith in Christ, and keep your conscience clear. For some people have deliberately violated their consciences; as a result, their faith has been shipwrecked."

You may also recognize Luke 17:33, where Jesus give us a warning about holding on too tightly to our own lives. Here it is in the NLT: "If you cling to your life, you will lose it, and if you let your life go, you will save it."

If we cling to ourselves, to the ways of this world, we inevitably will lose it. We cannot truly cling to Jesus unless we let go of any unholy, unrighteous things we were holding tightly to. By clinging to Him, we will be lead into a glorious future full of love, joy, peace, & health, & many, many other blessings. It doesn't matter how messed up, cracked, or even broken your past has been. Jesus wants to lead you to a glorious, victorious life. Clinging to Him is a choice we must make daily. His hand is always stretched out offering for us to cling.

In Luke 15, Jesus teaches via three parables. The first of these is what is commonly called "The Parable of The Lost Sheep," found in verses 4-7. 4 “If a man has a hundred sheep and one of them gets lost, what will he do? Won’t he leave the ninety-nine others in the wilderness and go to search for the one that is lost until he finds it? 5 And when he has found it, he will joyfully carry it home on his shoulders. 6 When he arrives, he will call together his friends and neighbors, saying, ‘Rejoice with me because I have found my lost sheep.’ 7 In the same way, there is more joy in heaven over one lost sinner who repents and returns to God than over ninety-nine others who are righteous and haven’t strayed away!

We do not follow anyone because we are good followers. We follow them because we believe them to be a good leader, whether they truly are or not. And many times we tend to change who we are following because we no longer see our leaders as viable, having to search to new ones.

Throughout Bible, Jesus is often referred to as a shepherd, or The Good Shepherd, while we as believers are often referred to the lambs of the Shepherd. Though sheep are actually quite intelligent, they have a propensity to wonder off away from the flock & do their own thing, causing the shepherd to have to recount how many are still in the flock. Jesus will always lead us on a holy, righteous path, a path towards eternal glory, leaving the flock if necessary, to find any sheep that have wondered off. In terms of humanity, many, many, many people have wondered off.

If you want to follow someone, someone who will never let you down, someone who is eternally perfect, Jesus is always the correct choice to have as your leader.

In Philippians 1:21-24, the Apostle Paul says in the New Living Translation: 21 For to me, living means living for Christ, and dying is even better. 22 But if I live, I can do more fruitful work for Christ. So I really don’t know which is better. 23 I’m torn between two desires: I long to go and be with Christ, which would be far better for me. 24 But for your sakes, it is better that I continue to live.

The Message Bible says also says it quite well: 21 Alive, I’m Christ’s messenger; dead, I’m his prize. Life versus even more life! I can’t lose. 22 As long as I’m alive in this body, there is good work for me to do. If I had to choose right now, I hardly know which I’d choose. Hard choice! 23 The desire to break camp here and be with Christ is powerful. Some days I can think of nothing better. 24 But most days, because of what you are going through, I am sure that it’s better for me to stick it out here.

When the Apostle Paul wrote the book of Philippians, as well as three other books (Ephesians, Colossians, & Philemon), he was serving his first imprisonment, which Acts 28 talks about. When he was writing the above passage, he knew very well that he could die a prisoner. Yet, he had faith that he would one day be free. So, he got to reflecting. If he were to die while in prison, he would get to experience the glories of Heaven, leaving the mess of this world behind. He also saw the vitality of staying alive because of the anointing God placed on his life - bringing the Gospel to the gentile (non-Jewish) world, helping them to become true disciples of Christ, thus having more souls getting to hear "well done, my good & faithful servant." It was a win-win scenario. As appealing as dying a prisoner was for Paul, he saw the vitality of remaining alive far more significant, not only for him, but for the entire world.

That is how it should be for us as Christians. We should be so firm, so on fire in our relationship with Jesus, letting that spill onto how we treat others, that we become 100% positive where we will spend our afterlife. Because of this, death is not to be feared, regardless of how young or old we die. If we are to remain alive, we get to live out more of The Great Commission in whatever field God has placed us in, helping bring more souls to Heaven. Again, it's a win-win scenario.

Love is vertical: our relationship with God. Love is horizontal: our relationships with other humans. We cannot live out one while neglecting the other. They work best, benefiting our lives more, when we live out both hand-in-hand.

Jesus teaches us of this concept as He perfectly summed up the Ten Commandments in Matthew 22:37-39: 37 Jesus replied, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’

Whether you know this or not, God wants to bless us. He really does. Each & every one of us. His desire is not for us to have little or to be poor. He wants us to live in abundance of more than enough so that we can be generous & help others, in the name of Jesus.

Believing in God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit, the Bible, Jesus' death & resurrection, Jesus' second coming are all meant to be believed through the lens of faith, not through a lens of feelings. Feelings change, sometimes back-n-forth. Feelings fail. Feelings are based off our senses. Faith is based off trust in the unseen. It is only by faith that the things of God can truly be in our hearts & become the center of our lives.

God's words are what ultimately matters. They make for a better bedrock to build our lives upon then our human words ever could make.

As Jesus taught us during His Sermon On The Mount, recorded in Matthew 7:24-27: 24 “Anyone who listens to My teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. 25 Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won’t collapse because it is built on bedrock. 26 But anyone who hears My teaching and doesn’t obey it is foolish, like a person who builds a house on sand. 27 When the rains and floods come and the winds beat against that house, it will collapse with a mighty crash.”

Hello to all you Tumblr users!

I am Johnny, from the western Twin Cities of Minnesota. My main Tumblr is @holyriotsoldier, which I haven't used in a long while. • The fall of 2008 was very impactful for me spiritually & out of that I wrote a spoken word poem called Holy Riot. That poem, which has been edited much throughout the years, encourages Christian believers to stand firm in their faith, to never back down, & to fight the good whatever the cost, being true soldiers of the Lord's army. Soon enough holyriotsoldier became the standard username I would use for pretty much whatever.

Later I was inspired by TobyMac's daily Speak Life quotes to make my own such photos, which I started sometime in 2018, using the holyriotsoldier tag. Now, I have decided to try out a new page to single those photos out, leaving out all the personal details & whatnot you see on my main page. Thus, I am essentially reposting these photos. Let's see how this goes, if it ever sticks around.
