To think that Xie Lian lived for centuries without anyone to talk while collecting scrap after his last fall, just to be ignored by the other gods in the spiritual communication array whenever he tried to start a conversation after his last ascension. And then Hua Cheng finally finds him and not only answers TO him but also remembers everything is said BY him, as if every word spoken by Xie Lian was worthy of his complete attention and not a mere pause in his own speech. Was in such simple details, — like being truly heard — that a man whose existence had always been about what he could or couldn't offer others, finally felt like he existed in himself, just as if who he is was more important than the state of him for the first time.

I love how in the VNC universe there are those who side with vampires and those who side with humans, but vampires AND humans are against this son of a bitch:

One of my favorite aspects about hualian is Hua Cheng's love for Xie Lian being the obsession through which Hua Cheng becomes a supreme, because it contradicts the usual premise that the one who has someone to protect has more to lose — here love is not a weakness, love is power.

The idea of Hua Cheng tracing the freckles on Xie Lian's skin with kisses and memorizing them to the point of being able to draw them without having to look can and MUST coexist with the idea that if the sun really burned XL's skin, HC would've already a way of knocking it out of the sky…

I think it's so funny and cute that Hua Cheng could just make his blood rain itself not hit him, but he still uses his umbrella because it's a great excuse to use something that Xie Lian gave him 🐩
