LING WEN

My opinion on Ling Wen: she's a really fun character I think. I like how her introduction set her up as Extremely Tired and Done With People's Shit -> actually rather apathetic and indifferent later on is the impression -> does have a heart and feelings but is more pragmatic than anything, in the end.

My favorite canon thing about her: honestly my favorite canon thing about her is that she is absolutely the kind of character who's done a lot of things for her own benefit, including but not limited to uhhh [gestures to Jing Wen who admittedly deserved her wrath] and all of that. And she isn't even the worst character who's done that kind of thing! She's a victim and part of the cycle and structure of violence in the Heavenly Realm!

My least favorite canon thing about her: honestly it's that in the initial draft / currently-published edition her own arc doesn't get the level of depth and such that it deserves... but the revised edition gave me everything I wanted and more so I don't have THAT much to complain about?

My favorite headcanons for her: this is less a headcanon and more of a [already confirmed canon] thing with a funny idea added on top, which is that she helped Shi Wudu find He Xuan for the fate-swapping spell, but I like to think that she had known about his intent on doing this for a While and waited until he was losing his mind to offer help LOL. And even then she did it because she did owe him. They're friends you see

My least favorite headcanons for her: honestly I think assigning Ling Wen mean lesbian at large within fandom is a lazy cop-out of actually interacting with her character because then you get to put her out of the way and play shipping dolls with SWD and PM and have her be the exasperated female friend #tired of their antics or some shit. It's also just like, when this happens, there's no engagement with her character or interiority or anything like that? Deeply annoying.
