Matt was glad that Foggyās family was supportive of him. He knew some lawyers in their class who didnāt have the support of their loved ones and that made things very difficult for them in school. The curriculum was difficult enough without having people berating them for being in school in the first place.Ā āGood. Now you just have the fun of all of them asking you for legal advice about everything.āĀ
āYou are the one that is going to have to deal with the puppy dog eyes from whatever breed you get for me, so just remember that in your plans.ā
āI still maintain that I never lied. Everything looked completely clear to me,ā Matt smiled.Ā āOr at least it looked like everything else that I see,ā he shrugged. He never minded Foggy joking about his blindness. It was nice to have someone that wasnāt terrified to bring up his disability.Ā
Foggy shrugged. "It's not so bad," he said. "I'd rather field those questions than questions about my love life or other uncomfortable subjects that family loves to bring up." He smiled a little. His mother had asked about Matt a few times and Foggy had been evasive. Not that it stopped her, but he was sure she'd be happy they were talking again.
Foggy laughed and kept smiling. "As much as I joke about getting you a dog I'd never actually do it," he said. "Or at least I'll put it off until you can balance your life well enough that you're consistently taking care of yourself, buddy."
One of the first things Matt made clear was that he hated when people tiptoed around him when it came to his blindness. So, Foggy never had. "Too much lawyer in you to be a good Dread Pirate," he said. "Bad for getting another job, great for our client." He maneuvered Matt around a few more things on the sidewalk that he decided not to think about. "You're a great lawyer, always have been."
Matt, you need to take a breath.
Letās go save the world.
As of right now, youāre a person of interest. A witness to a crime.
MCU Meme | 7 Dynamics: Matt Murdock & Foggy Nelson (6/7)
Matt: Whoās your best friend?
Foggy: You are my best friend.
Matt: And what did I say to you the very first day of college?
Foggy: āThatās my bunk, bitch.ā
Matt: After that.
Matt: Can you do me a weird favor without asking any questions?
Foggy: Isnāt that the bedrock upon which our friendship is founded?
As a tribute to my own IRL Foggy, I made Foggy memes.
Incorrect Daredevil Quote
Foggy: Did you shout āParkourā? Matt: Well, sure. That was kinda Parkour-like Foggy: Matt, Iām almost certain one does not shout 'Parkour.ā I believe one is supposed to simply do Parkour.ā

Matt tried to keep his smile as Foggy returned the jab at him, but it faltered. Foggy had no way of knowing what happened to Elektra or about what they had discussed before their plans were forever and permanently ruined. Foggy had no way of knowing about the dreams and how they kept Matt up at night, especially since he felt like it was his fault that she was gone in the first place. Matt wondered what Foggy knew about Karen. He let the comment pass. He didnāt want to have either conversation right now.
Matt gave a fake sigh of exasperation.Ā āFoggy, you are such a lawyer!ā he scoffed.Ā āNo pets or trained assistant work animals. Is that clear enough for you, counselor?ā
Matt chuckled,Ā āAgreed. After so many threats of being killed in the morning, I decided that life on the high seas wasnāt the life for me. Well, that and Iām a terrible sea navigator. It all looks the same to me.ā
Foggy wondered if he touched a nerve when Matt didnāt joke back. Ā Since he hadnāt seen any sign of Elektra or Karen when he visited Mattās place he figured something had happened, but right now wasnāt the moment to pry. Ā When Matt felt like it, heād talk. Ā Though it was more likely that Foggy would pry when Matt started worrying him more than he already was. Ā This wasnāt the right time though, they had a client.
āYou know my mom is still proud every time someone says that,ā he replied grinning. Ā āYou hav made yourself very clear and I think covered all possible loopholes. Ā Except for the clause in our friendship that states anything is fair game as long as itā funny.ā
Foggy laughed at Mattās joke. Ā āThey got tired of you perching in the crowās nest and reporting that it looks clear to you. Ā Then when a cannonball went across the deck theyād shout up that you said it was clear. Ā You lawyered back that it looked clear. Ā Even with an armada surrounding you it still looked clear.ā Ā One thing Matt had always done was make jokes about his blindness and theyād always been comfortable joking with each other about it. Ā Though the moment some jerk decided to be rude about it, that when they teamed up and had some real fun.

Matt couldnāt see Foggy roll his eyes, but he swore he could almost hear it. āWell, Iām glad that you have accepted yourself,ā he told him, patting his shoulder.
āSomething new? Why would you want to do that?ā Matt teased. āNo pets. I donāt want to joke about pets because then youāll try to get one for me or someone else will get the idea to give me a dog. Iām pretty sure that giving a seeing eye dog a heart attack is a crime. If it isnāt, Iām sure it would be after the court case. No pets,ā he said sternly.
After a moment, he gave a small chuckle. āYou know, I didnāt cover up my eye because I didnāt want to look like a pirate. We could tell her that you caught me before I went on a high seas adventure,ā he suggested.
Foggy chuckled and liked the feeling that they had fallen back into their comfortable teasing routine. He'd missed his best friend more than he wanted to admit. There had been a huge Matt shaped hole in his life since they'd parted and he was glad to see that they could find a way to work past their issues. "Oh, come on, you have really hot women just lining up to fawn all over you normally. When you have a boo boo they practically mob you. I'm used to it," he said.
Foggy laughed again and held up the hand he wasn't using to help guide Matt in a gesture of surrender. "I give in. No pets, no mention of pets, no thoughts of pets for Matt. Though technically trained assistant dogs are working dogs not just pets," he said. "I get it more now why you don't want one and I only bring it up as a joke."
Foggy grinned. "As long as we can say I wisely told you that nobody would surrender to the Dread Pirate Matt," he replied guiding Matt around something on the ground that he didn't want to identify.

Matt fixed his cufflinks as Foggy commented about his face. He could cover up most of the wounds, but the large cut about his eyebrow was a bit harder to cover up without looking like he was trying to be a pirate.
āYou called and I answered the stapler. Iām sure sheāll understand,ā he smiled. It was an old joke between them. āThat or we tell her that Iām one of those people with a disability that likes to do every dangerous sport that they can to prove to themselves that they arenāt really that bad off,ā he shrugged.Ā
āUnless you mean that you are worried about how much better I look than you, even with a cut over my eye? I tend to put the āhotā in āhot messā,ā he smirked.
He grabbed his cane and walked with Foggy, enjoying the familiar routine of going to meet a client beside his best friend and coworker.
Foggy chuckled and grinned when Matt referenced the old joke between them. Matt had always had a sense of humor about his blindness and tended to collect blind jokes so it was almost natural that some things became inside jokes. Though there was more truth in Matt liking dangerous sports than Foggy wanted to think about just then.
Foggy just rolled his eyes when Matt commented about his good looks. "I haven't been worried about that for a long time," he replied laughing.
"Maybe instead of the old stapler joke we could try something new," he suggested as they walked. "Something like, you decided to try getting a service animal and it turns out that seeing eye cats were a really bad idea." Even though Foggy knew that Matt didn't need him as a guide, it was familiar and something that reminded him of their long friendship. "It'll just change things up and maybe give us new material."
Iām the closest he has to family. Heād do the same for me.

Matt chuckled about Foggyās attempted spin on the situation.Ā āYou realized that it only looks like you are hiding behind the blind guy that knows kung fu when the other people know that the blind guy knows kung fu. Otherwise, you are just hiding behind the blind guy,ā he pointed out, smiling. Matt never thought it was cowardly not to fight, but it was fun to tease Foggy no matter what.
Matt waited quietly as Foggy looked over his injuries. He knew that his friend worried about him, but he also knew that he was needed. The city was sick. The city needed him in a mask. He knew now that he needed Foggy and he needed Foggy to trust him. If this was the first step, then he was going to have to get used to it.
āYeah, yeah, you are right. Iāll get moving,ā he agreed. Foggy wanted to see the injuries, but the new client wouldnāt. Bleeding profusely might be a large cause of worry and from the sounds of it, this situation needed to have as smooth a transition as possible.Ā
He quickly made his way over to his bedroom and hoped that he still had something businesslike clean. He found one of his suits and got in the shower. His cuts burned and his bruises were tender under the beads of water, but he felt more human again after he finished, dressed his wounds, and put on a much different suit than he had been wearing lately.
āReady,ā Matt told Foggy as he emerged from his room, straightening his tie.
Foggy grinned. "You know that you know Kung fu and I know that you know Kung fu, those are the only opinions I really care about," he said. "And I could always talk my way out of it somehow later. I'm good at putting a spin on things."
He was quiet watching Matt head to his bedroom to get ready to go. This morning had gone really well so far. There were still some things between them. Questions neither of them had asked and people neither of them had talked about yet. It would all come with time, but for right now they were talking and had a plan to start working together which was what Foggy was hoping to achieve.
He hadn't told Matt how worried he'd been. As much as he tried to avoid hearing about things going on it was almost impossible to not hear anything. Then once he heard something he couldn't stop himself from digging. There was news and more news about the Devil of Hell's Kitchen for awhile then they began focusing on others. Knowing was bad, but not knowing was torture. There were days where he wondered if Matt was still alive.
Foggy stood up when Matt came into the living room and said he was ready. "You still look like shit, but at least you look like shit in a decent suit," he said. "We can have fun making up stories to explain your face." He chuckled. "Beyond 'he was born with it, curse of the Irish' of course."
Foggy fell back into his usual way of walking with Matt anywhere. His arm was always there for Matt to grab onto. Even though he knew his friend didn't strictly need it, there was a comfort in the routine.
