I wanted to draw the genderbent version last year, but for some reason I never got around to it 🤔 Pretty sure I still have the file somewhere. BUT HEY! I did it this year! Happy early Valentine’s Day if you celebrate it 😉
I even turned it into stickers in my shop 🫶 And I also made two new acrylic keychains that's Valentine's day themed 😏👌 Check them out if you’re interested 😁 Link in bio!
really delighted by a curse tablet found in roman britain (RIB 306) cursing somebody named senicianus for stealing a ring, only because a ring was found elsewhere in britain (RIB 2422.14) that was inscribed with the name senicianus seemingly sometime much later than it was made. it's pretty unlikely the two artifacts are actually related, since the name senicianus was not a rare one in roman britain, but there's a delightful coincidence to finding a ring that says "senicianus, may you live in god" and then later finding a curse tablet that says "may no one named senicianus be well until i get my ring back"
when england lose, women bruise
The same has been reported in Latin America (source, source):
In Brazil, the Brazilian Forum of Public Safety between 2015 and 2018 showed that domestic gender-based violence rises 23.7% on the days the League is played. Reports for injuries rise 25.9% when clubs play in their own city, and 30% when the national Brazil team is playing.
In Colombia, the cases of domestic gender-based violence rose by between 38% and 25% when the national team played in both the 2014 Brazil World Cup and the 2018 in Russia. The cases rose by 50% during the 2015 America Cup.
In Mexico, there's a common phrase that says "if my team loses, my family loses" (si pierde mi equipo, pierde mi familia) precisely as a reference to how violence against women and children is normalized when the husband/father is in a bad mood.
I'm sure it's not unique to these countries, they've just been the ones who have bothered to register it and make it public.
It is really important to me that all of you learn about Al Bean, astronaut on Apollo 12 and the fourth man to walk on the moon, who after 20 years in the US Navy and 18 years with NASA during which he spent 69 days in space and more than 10 hours doing EVAs on the moon , retired to become a painter.
He is my favorite astronaut for any number of reasons, but he’s also one of my favorite visual artists.
Like, look at this stuff????
It’s all so expressive and textured and colorful! He literally painted his own experience on the moon! And that's just really fucking cool to me!
Just look at this! This is one of my absolute favorite emotions of all time. Is Anyone Out There? is like the ultimate reaction image. Any time I have an existential crisis, this is how I picture myself.
And then there's this one:
The Fantasy
For all of the six Apollo missions to land on the moon, there was no spare time. Every second of their time on the surface was budgeted to perfection: sleeping, eating, putting on the suits, entering and exiting the LEM, rock collection, setting up longterm experiments to transmit data back to Earth, everything. These timetables usually got screwed over by something, but for the most part the astronauts stuck to them.
The crew of Apollo 12 (Pete Conrad, Al Bean, and Dick Gordon) had other plans. Conrad and Bean had snuck a small camera with a timer into the LEM to take a couple pictures together on the moon throughout the mission. They had hidden the key for the timer in one of the rock collection bags, with the idea being to grab the key soon after landing, take some fun photos here and there, and then sneak the camera back to Earth to develop them. They had practiced where they would hide the key and how to get it out from under the collected rocks back on Earth dozens of times.
But when they got to the moon, the key was nowhere to be found. Al Bean spent precious time digging through the collection bags before he called it off. The camera had been pushing their luck anyways, he couldn't afford to spend anymore time not on the mission objectives. Conrad and Bean continued the mission as per the NASA plan while Dick Gordon orbited overhead.
Fast forward to the very end of the mission. Bean and Conrad are doing last checks of the LEM before they enter for the last time and depart from the moon. As Bean is stowing one of the collection bags, the camera key falls out. The unofficially planned photo time has come and gone, and he tosses the key over his shoulder to rest forever on the surface of the moon.
This painting, The Fantasy, is that moment. There have never been three people on the moon at the same time, there was never an unofficial photo shoot on the moon, this picture could never have happened.
"The most experienced astronaut was designated commander, in charge of all aspects of the mission, including flying the lunar module. Prudent thinking suggested that the next-most-experienced crew member be assigned to take care of the command module, since it was our only way back home. Pete had flown two Gemini flights, the second with Dick as his crewmate. This left the least experienced - me - to accompany the commander on the lunar surface.
"I was the rookie. I had not flown at all; yet I got the prize assignment. But not once during the three years of training which preceded our mission did Dick say that it wasn't fair and that he wished he could walk on the moon, too. I do not have his unwavering discipline or strength of character.
"We often fantasized about Dick's joining us on the moon but we never found a way. In my paintings, though, I can have it my way. Now, at last, our best friend has come the last sixty miles." - Al Bean, about The Fantasy.

To be honest, this one
Almost made me cry right now.
I love it. Something about it feels so incredibly human. The emotion on display, even without a face to show it. This is magnificent. Truly magnificent. I feel it in my soul.
You dig a big enough hole that water can stay in, it becomes a pond. And once it's been a pond for long enough, fish somehow appear. Even though it's not connected to any other water - hell, consider all the lakes that aren't connected to any other water. How the fuck are there fish? Where do they come from?
One day, something in space is going to look at humans the same way. You go to a new galaxy and there's freaking humans in there, like they just spontaneously manifest on random planets that have the ability to sustain them. All you need is an atmosphere with enough oxygen, some form of water, and that's pretty much all you need before they seem to just pop out of the ground and start terraforming it.
The mystery of the lake fish has been solved, by the way. It's waterfowl. Much like the birds that eat seeds and spread them around, waterfowl consume roe from the water, and while the number of fertilised fish eggs that pass through the digestive system of a duck or wild goose alive and unharmed may be small, it's not zero. A goose will shit in the lake water, and through comes the roe. It happens just often enough that lakes and ponds become - and remain - populated with fish.
Humans don't pop up on unknown planets and and unreachable galaxies on purpose. They couldn't get in there any more than they could get out of there, they have no choice but to claim the most viable-looking planet they can reach and start terraforming it. But how did they even get there?
You see, every once in a while an unfortunate human spaceship gets swallowed by a cosmic duck
Some fish are also just able to straight up walk on land
"They just walked there" is now my favourite theory of "how are lakes populated with fish".
everyone i've talked to about this has been completely unaware so: if you didn't know already, there's going to be a solar eclipse, with totality or coverage of 90% or more in some places, over a lot of europe, on august 12th 2026. in the uk it will start just after 6pm, and the maximum will be at 7:13pm.
here is a map of the path of the eclipse (from timeanddate)
get eclipse glasses if you want to look at it. it is not safe to look at through sunglasses. ok informative post over o7

My friend said this but this is a very important point that yall need to understand.
Shel Silverstein wrote and illustrated poetry for children,
drew cartoons for Playboy,
and made the most terrifying album cover of all time.
Don't put artists in a box.
I’m not sure you could make a box that could contain Shel Silverstein.
oh yeah i made another black sapphire cookie (but more gijinka'd this time) print for my wonderbul friend mr barrett leddy you should go find him and make him sign it
The chicken chain was told to "cluck off" the last time it tried to move into the UK. This time, it hired bigger guns.
me: "have they tried not being fucking ignorant religious bigots?"
article: “I suspect that a bit of the steam has gone out of the LGBT thing,” Backman told the right-wing outlet, staying ahead of the issue. “There may be the odd protester, but if they have got armies of PR people laser-focused on that then I suspect it may be OK.”
me: no surprises there... fuck them
sandwich recipe
We go through a lot of pickles here and this recipe is a good way to use leftover brine.
The thing that pisses me off the most though is the fact I know so many LGBTQ+ individuals that still go there, and they are surprised when I actually don't. It's literally like that tweet.
there are places in the world today that are experiencing 40°C for the first time in recorded history. of course there's no way to know whether chucking billionaires into volcanos will appease the sun god but i feel we're doing the scientific method a disservice if we don't at least try
(goverment voice) we need to protect the children from pornography so our plan is to remove their eyes so they would never see something so traumatic. if you are against removing children's eyes you are basically a pedophile

SPIRITED AWAY (2001) dir. Hayao Miyazaki
Emos & scene kids got this close to abolishing gender for real. I try not to think about it too much.
The idea of a popular teenage subculture where girl & boys pretty much all dress the same feels impossible now but for a while it was reality and it was beautiful.
