This is my first serious cosplay. I loved her character so much, I think I decided I was going to cosplay her within the first few pages of the comic. She’s just that kickass,
and I did enjoy being able to wear my hair all natural for this :)

These Bacteria Are Wired to Hunt Like a Tiny Wolf Pack
There is an elaborate stealth communication network in the Earth beneath your feet. This smart web acts like a superorganism, fortifying defensive capabilities and coordinating deadly attacks on unsuspecting targets. But it’s not run by the NSA, the CIA, or the military. This web is made of bacteria.
A team of scientists led by Manfred Auer at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory have used cutting-edge 3-D microscopy to identify a new mechanism for bacterial networking. They observed elaborate webs of a common soil bacterium, Myxococcus xanthus, connected by thread-like membranes. This system of cellular pipelines suggests that some bacteria have evolved complex ways to deliver molecular cargo out of sight from snooping neighbors. Their work appears in the journal Environmental Microbiology.

The Crab Nebula is a supernova remnant and pulsar wind nebula found in the constellation of Taurus. At it’s center lies a neutron star 28-30km across, that emits radiation from gamma rays to radio waves. It is not visible to the naked eye, but can be seen using a telescope or binoculars.

Sperm production. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of sperm cells (blue tails) that are developing inside a seminiferous tubule, the site of sperm production in the human testis. The developing heads of the sperm cells (green/red, across bottom) are embedded in a layer of Sertoli cells (red) that nourish the developing sperm. Fernan Federici – Microscopic Photographs of Plants
These surreal images are microscopic photographs of various plants, taken by Dr. Fernan Federici. He is a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Cambridge working in the area of Synthetic Biology. He started his career studying two years of Engineering at the Universidad Nacional de Cuyo (Mendoza, Argentina) and then moved to Chile to obtain an undergraduate degree in Molecular Biology. Later he moved to England to do a PhD in Biological Sciences at Cambridge. Each of Federici’s photographs depicts the cellular life of a different form of flora, from rainforest specimen to coniferous forest inhabitants. The plants’ bright colors, hollow-looking cells and overall intensity make for some absolutely stunning photographs that are both visually arresting and thought-provoking. The vibrant and detailed photographs show just how intricate and beautiful nature really is.
