Rose placed her books aside to give the man her full attention, she was expecting to see Sofia walk in with him, but maybe something happened that she was late, Rose understood how it was, sometimes just because she wanted to see Sofia didn’t meant she could do it, specially when her aunts had other plans, if she needed to help around the house, or they wanted to make sure her homework were done before she left the house, sometimes they spend days only talking over text, so she would never get angry at Sofia for being late, she just hoped she managed to show up before she had to leave, because as always she was looking forward to seeing her girlfriend.
She blushed a little when the man said he heard a lot about her. “I hope you heard good things about me.” She said with a shy smile, offering him her hand for him to shake. “Is lovely to meet you, Hunter. You look familiar.” Rose said, tilting her head, not exactly sure where she saw him, maybe at college? It didn’t exactly matter, so she thought about something else.
If her aunts saw her alone with an older man, she knew that could be a cause for an argument later, and the last thing she wanted was to get grounded and stuck in the house again, not that she didn’t sneak away. “Do you know if Sofia is coming?” Rose asked, eager to see her.

Hunter gave a single, curt laugh. “Yeah, I’ve heard good things about you,” he replied. He’d heard nothing but good things as Sofia gushed endlessly about how amazing her girlfriend was. To be fair, Sofia only had nice things to say about everyone. But when it came to Rose, it was on a whole other level. She was the perfect, beautiful, goddess of the forest who could do no wrong. For now, anyway. That was soon about to change.
He readjusted himself in his chair, glancing behind his shoulder. Socializing was not his strong suit, and he was hoping that Sofia would arrive soon to fill in his pregnant silences. Once both the girls were distracted, he’d be able to make his move. In the meantime, he had to keep the conversation going. “Ah yeah, you too. Maybe you’ve seen me around with Sofia. Or at the college, I work there as a handyman,” he explained.
At that moment, both their phones buzzed. He pulled it out of his pocket and saw a text from Sofia, saying that she had to cancel, as Guinevere was asking her to help around the orchard for the upcoming Founders Week events. Hunter cursed internally--of course Guin would mess things up when he was finally starting to get things going. He couldn’t let this deter him, as he looked up to see Rose undoubtedly reading a similar text. “Looks like she’s not coming...still, I could buy you a coffee for your trouble,” he offered.
