this piece was drawn for a zine. I love how much stuff I put into it. There are many different symbolic meanings - you can guess if you want. I could write them out, but I'm lazy, lol
An Archive of Our Own, a project of the Organization for Transformative Works
Centuries have passed since Seong Gi-hun first began hunting demons that slip between worlds, leaving only the endless weight of duty—and the quiet, unshakable grief of existence between human and infernal blood.
But he finds out there is another like him. A second half-breed.
All he has to go on is a name: In-ho
But In-ho is not the salvation Gi-hun imagined. He is something far more dangerous, and something far harder to leave behind.
My first participation in the @au-roulette !
You know me, I love a good AU, and the first prompt I got - Gothic Horror - was just right up my street. It also happened that I had been planning this Devil May Cry inspired AU for sometime - you'll have seen the updates for the artwork I've been doing. I'd already been thinking about lore, and had started writing a fic, and the prompt fit it PERFECTLY.
Oh, and speaking of the artwork - it's done! HAPPY PRIDE TO OUR FANDOM'S FAVOURITE BISEXUAL!
I also drew me a Junho
so insanely unhinged of inho to ask if gihun still has faith, still believes in his cause after purposefully, cruelly extinguishing, suppressing and practically killing that flame inside of him
and if i say that sangwoo would’ve never let gihun walk away like inho did if he was the one who’d been in inho’s position. what then
elaborate on the hunting for sport idea? 🌝
the fun answer!!
post s3 games where gihun obviously survives, he runs away from inho. he tries to hide in bigger cities like itaweon, corners of seoul or daegu and even the countryside but inho keeps on finding him. it becomes a game for them — gihun’s heart thrums from feeling like a prey, running and running even though he knows he will eventually be caught; he feels eyes on him everywhere, even when he tries to fall asleep— maybe especially when he tries to fall asleep.
inho chases and chases because he’s still desperate for gihun. being the chaser, being the predator gives him a rush of confidence, of adrenaline because he once again gets to torment gihun but in softer ways than before that he thinks gihun should be grateful for. he gets a kick out of hiding in the shadows of gihun’s home, sitting at gihun’s table all pretty, waiting for gihun to come home and see him and panic.
more often than not he has to dodge whatever gihun throws at him
Ok, I’ll bite.
What do you mean In-ho’s favorite hobby is hunting down Gi-hun for sport?
HELLO thank u sm for the ask lmao. i’ll answer this in a more serious way and since i’ve received another ask based on this, i’ll answer the other one in a lighthearted way
so. the gihun-inho relation is already build on predator/prey dynamics, made more perverse when looked at from an inhun perspective.
inho likes control; that much is clear. he also has the upper hand with his extensive knowledge of the system, and how high up the ladder in the games hierarchy he is, making him the natural predator. inho, unsurprisingly, plays into this dynamic and revels in the power it gives him. the games changed him— they made him a little more apathetic, a little more crueler.
but the opposite happened to gihun. sure, after his first time and during his second gihun turned to be much a leader, a more active presence within the players; however, at his core, because of the games, he is the prey because of the cards he was dealt with. but the thing about gihun is that, surprisingly, he too accepts his role as the prey— he does not wish to have the power that inho has; he would rather remain prey than a predator if it meant losing his humanity.
it’s like what some say about war veterans: however twisted, they may begin to miss it.
and in a strange way, i think inho knows this more than gihun does and takes advantage of it. so, he chases gihun, relentless, everywhere gihun goes. he leaves reminders of himself where gihun can see because he knows that in a masochist sort of way, gihun craves answer and justice and he could never let go of inho either. it doesn’t matter if gihun knows that inho does this on purpose because he falls for it regardless.
gihun misses the thrill of the chase, the thrill of being chased because it reminds him that he’s alive despite everything, because of everything, and the thought of that hurts and inho indulges in this because it’s the only thing he has left. gihun is the only one that has witnessed hwang inho in his entirety and so inho cannot let him go.
hwang inho’s favourite hobby is hunting gihun down for sport
inho’s character is so interesting to me.
like what do you mean you got so obsessed with this one guy, this one guy that you think is the epitome of kindness and naivety, that you allowed it to destroy you and the only system you allowed yourself to believe in.
hmmmm thinking about how even gihun’s ghost wouldn’t be able to truly hurt inho. thinking about how gihun’s ghost is tied to inho. thinking about how gihuns ghost’s thinking would mellow out after seeing the miserable life inho is leading after the games, NOT because inho’s not doing well but because he pities inho.
the only times inho had looked alive to gihun was in the bubble he’d created as youngil.

THANK YOU FOR CHECKING IN 🫶‼️
rewatching squid game s2 and the tension between gihun and inho is genuinely so thick. kudos to jungbae and daeho and junhee for just powering through those heaps of sexual tension between gihun and inho
happy new year to everyone!!
going into 2026 by still strongly loving inhun 💪
also, the reason why gi-hun fans don't talk about his shitty actions is because... he gets held responsible BY THE NARRATIVE. he is held responsible BY THE SHOW ITSELF!! we don't need to condemn him for stealing from his mom and cancelling her health insurance, because guess what! he faced the consequences of his actions IN THE SHOW!!
if he hadn't done that, he wouldn't have needed to go back into the games because his mother's health rapidly declined! if he hadn't done that, he wouldn't have come home to his DEAD MOTHER, rendering all that suffering within the games POINTLESS. don't you think that's already enough punishment? come on
For me, a garden variety asshole, it means a lot that Gihun was (is? If you prefer not to let it go) also a screw up. It means to me that compassion can come from anyone, not only “good” people. It also means the desire and ability to effect radical change can come from anyone. In the end, he made a choice and that means any of us can as well. There should be no gatekeeper for social acceptability to be a force for good. We are not just our terrible past mistakes. We are not just our ongoing mistakes. Whatever the narrative chooses to do with Gihun in the end, I’ll never stop saying that this is a character that helped me be brave.
One of the things squid game does best (and fandom spaces tend to do worst) is nuance.
With the exception of the cartoon villain VIPs (who are essentially “the system” personified and not actual people), the characters we meet are all beautifully complex and layered. Morally good, or bad, or neutral— no one is definitively irredeemable. No one deserves the dehumanization of capitalistic oppression. Not the cops, not the criminals, not the murderers, not even the deadbeat dads/sons. What a great and hopeful way to look at the world. We all have value. We can all choose, at any point in our lives, to do something good. Even if we suck.
