What’s your opinion on Mathias relationship with Emil? Like, what’s the dynamic between them two? Is it awkward? How about when Lukas is around? I believe Mathias would really want Emil to look up to him, would Lukas encourage that? Also i am madly in love with your art style, it is INSANE how quickly you draw.

Hard to say right now, I think it depends on the time period! Additionally, I’m not well-versed in Iceland’s relations thoroughout history. I need to read more before I can answer confidently, but some thoughts:

After the Kalmar & Dano-Norwegian Unions fall, I do enjoy the idea of Iceland staying with Denmark during later eras like Treaty of Kiel.

While I don’t things would be necessarily awkward between them, I can imagine a teenage, hormonal, rebellious Emil being really annoyed when Mathias starts getting in his head about Lukas (Treaty of Kiel era). Mathias will learn how to become better through Emil, because he’d be the last person in their immediate family that has not yet left him. I think he really wants to make that relationship work. Re: rebellious teen Emil, I don’t think he will care about what Lukas advises him to do in being left with Mathias. Lukas has his worries about Mathias’ influence, but who is he to tell Emil anything when he’s trying to be independent? It’ll be something that Emil will want, too, so he pulls away. Typical family stuff.

Now, awkward at the reunion stage (Norway’s King coronation in 1906/7)? Absolutely. I think Lukas gives Mathias a cold shoulder for a bit before they have to depend and love on each other again during the hard years of WW2. I’m not sure what Iceland was doing during WW2, though. Much research to be done lol.

In modern times, they can mention the past state of things with a joking inflection and not flinch (result of my instagram page being flooded with reels of Swedes, Norwegians, and Danish people poking fun at each other). Basically, they will arrive to the state that Himaruya depicts them in in the Nordic episodes eventually.

Cosplayed Iceland at a con today and surprisingly got recognized quite a few times. Last time only two people knew who I was.
