dorian ;
[ the other’s words ring in his ears as he listens as intently as one can in a dream, a multitude of swirling thoughts typically taking over, though for some reason, his mind seems oddly at ease here. ]
❛I suppose you are correct. No, I don’t suppose, I know, it is true, these things you say.❜
[ he slides his hand over his face before he catches the other’s stare firmly. ]
❛I wish to help them, change them in some ways but not all. Our culture is rich, full of a long proud history that’s stubborn beyond all belief. Any change that may come to them will be slow and may not produce the results you or I are looking for. For someone who is so inherently at odds with everything my homeland exonerates, I cannot wrap my head around the idea of you wishing to lend me assistance. Then again–––❜
[ he laughs under his breath, brilliantly white teeth peeking out from behind his lips to bite upon his lower one. ]
❛I would not be surprised if my mind was merely creating an optimal image of you accompanied by responses I want to hear. How delightful!❜
It took a good deal of effort to keep himself from saying anything regarding Dorian’s last statement, but he managed to bite his tongue and merely stared at the mage in some sort of attempt at a reply. Though certainly not the sort of response with a legitimate answer within it.
“Regardless of what this all is, my point still stands and you are certainly intelligent enough to understand the truth within my words,” he quipped with the barest hints of a smile plucking at the corners of his mouth. Internally he had to remind himself that this was considered a dream and actually smiling wouldn’t hurt him in the slightest. Old habits, however, died hard. “You have the power to change your people, even if all you do is set them on the proper path that leads them to a better future. If you do not have faith in your abilities and in yourself, nothing will be done and change will not come. It is up to you to find the drive to do what we all know you want to do.”
