The difference between Snape and James is that James grew up and Snape remained a bitter child. No matter what side Snape was on in the end, his actions cannot be excused. He bullied CHILDREN while he was an ADULT. That is not okay. He called his best friend a slur. He joined a group of people who were against people like Lily. He only changed sides when Lily was in danger. He only cared about Lily. Snape is a bully. There are no excuses to bully children. Especially while you're their teacher. That is not the role of a teacher. Teachers are meant to nurture and care for you not make you fear them so much that they're your greatest fear.

James realised his mistakes and amended them. There is no way Lily would have had anything to do with him if he didn't. He sacrificed himself for his wife and son. James was a brother to Sirius. He and his family took him in. James did make mistakes and did bully others when he was a child, I'm not going to deny that. But, he learnt from his mistakes. He matured into a better person.

Snape bad mouthed James to his son who never got to remember his father. That is not okay. Snape was an asshole. Snape was so bitter that he was ready for James and Harry to die so Lily would survive. So you think Lily would have wanted anything to do with Snape after that? I think not. Again, I would like to reiterate, Snape joined a, simply put, a violent hate group who were against people like Lily. Wtf was he thinking. Did he really think Lily would go running to him after that?!

I’ve always hated Snape but I’ve always felt sad that he died in the Shrieking Shack, a place that was meaningful and special to his rivals.

Not so friendly reminder that James did not bully Snape because:

He was best friends with Lily. James literally did not give a fuck about Lily on the first day on the train

He was a half blood. James Potter has shown time and time again that the family he comes from is vehemently anti blood purism. He sacrificed his life fighting against blood purism and the wizard nazi’s

He was poor. No one cared that Snape was poor. Remus is also poor. And?

Reasons why James bullied Snape:

Because he made fun of his intelligence and his fathers intelligence based on house status

Because he was a fucking bigot and a blood purist. He ran around with death eaters.

Because he was obsessed with dark magic that has no other purpose other than to harm and maim people.

I severely dislike the “Lupin is a coward for abandoning Tonks” opinion because no one ever stops to consider that Remus avoided Tonks pregnancy due to the fact that’s he’s absolutely terrified of Teddy being born a werewolf. A fear that stems from his trauma of already being a werewolf and going through the monthly terrors. He absolutely hates being a werewolf and already has severe trauma from being infected as a child and forced to have his life turned upside. He wouldn’t even have been able to go to school if Dumbledore hadn’t given him a chance. Do you guys realize that Remus probably thought he was the same as Greyback? Infecting an innoncent child and subjecting them to a lifetime of horror and secrets? Being scared isn’t the same as being a coward.

I know this is an unpopular opinion, but Gryffindor deserved to win the House Cup at the end of Harry’s first year.

Take off the Slytherin-sympathizing glasses for one moment and just look at the facts. Harry, Ron, and Hermione essentially saved the world. They were able to, if not outright stop, at least temporarily delay Voldemort’s return to power. That deserves recognition whether you want to admit it or not.

Look, I get that people want to be all “uwu poor Slytherins were robbed”, but it’s just not accurate here. Dumbledore didn’t award Gryffindor those points because he didn’t want Slytherin to win; he did it because they fucking deserved them.

Also, if we’re going to argue about unfair point distributions, let’s also talk about the fact that Slytherin won the House Cup seven years in a row before Harry and co arrived at Hogwarts.

And who was the Head of House for Slytherin during those years? Oh right, Severus Snape.

Snape, the teacher who took two points from Harry during his first lesson, one because he didn’t know the answers to the questions Snape was asking, most of which weren’t even first year material, and the second because Neville messed up his potion, which was apparently all Harry’s fault for not stopping him.

Snape, the teacher who took five points from Harry for...bringing a book outside.

Snape, the teacher who in Goblet of Fire took points from Harry and Ron but not from Malfoy, Crabbe and Goyle when all of them had been fighting.

Snape, the teacher who took points from Hermione for answering a question...right after he criticized the entire Gryffindor class for not knowing about werewolves.

Snape, the teacher who took five points from Harry for being a few minutes late to class but only said “Settle down” when Malfoy was late returning to class after “recovering” from being scratched by Buckbeak.

Throughout the series, the ONLY teacher we ever see unfairly awarding or taking away points is Snape. You cannot honestly think that Slytherin legitimately won the House Cup during those seven years.

Actually, no. There was also Umbridge and her Inquisitorial Squad, which was comprised entirely of Slytherins and were given the power to take points as well as status over prefects. You can all see where I’m going with this.

So every time there has been a legitimately unfair distribution or taking of points, it was ALWAYS in the Slytherins’ favor.

Remind me again how the Slytherins are always treated so unfairly and robbed of their House Cup glory? If anything, they should have been ranked even lower in the Cup standings.

Also, I think he knew that the reason they lost 150 points when Malfoy only lost 20 not long before was because of the baby dragon and not because they just wanted to be out at night. He knew it was for a noble reason (helping Hagrid) but couldn't just give the points back without a reason so he took the first chance to reward them he could by doing it at the feast.

Snape loves talking shit about James in front of Harry. But why doesn’t he do it in front of other people? Why doesn’t he shit talk James when Dumbledore is present? Or McGonagall? Or Sirius? Or Remus? Is it because he’s a coward and only talks shit about James in front of someone he has power over? And that can’t fight back? And he knows that if he talked shit about James in front of Dumbledore, McGonagll, Sirius, and Remus that the first two would call him out on his bullshit and the other two would literally murder him? Cmon babe keep that same energy!
