I think Dhawan!Master!Doctor, by meta virtue of simply being A Doctor, should realise his Big Finish Escape Clause that thus allows him to exist in a slice of highly time dilated canon, and go and have a 13-episode-and-a-special series where we find out whatever it was he was planning to do (nothing, head empty, no notes - i mean it he has no notes).
During which of course he loses one Doctor Outfit piece per episode, ending up being gifted items by the people he accidentally helped along the way, until he’s dressed and acting as his own Doctor.
He eventually comes to like it. Not just the accolades — god he loves having his name chanted, even this one — but that warm fuzzy feeling *shudder* that he’s getting fond of like a dad who didn’t want the cat.
By the end of the second series he’s just waiting for the other shoe to drop. Because he can’t get to just stay like this, surely? Having ran out on the pre-defined narrative like the Doctor would? But it seems like he’s the only one who can make him go back and finish the story and what if he just…doesn’t…
Dhawan!Doctor: “Cus, I mean like, even you had to go back, in the end, right? Couldn’t just joyride as the Doctor forever, had to die sometime.”
Clara: “How would you be talking to me now if I had?”
Dhawan!Doctor: “Oh. …How old are you? Just between us girls.”
Clara: “Hit the big five a while ago.”
Dhawan!Doctor: “Five hundred? Or thousand?”
Dhawan!Doctor: *whistles, kicking his heels against the diner they’re sat on top of, floating through space* “…Yeah, we’ve got loads of time…”
