As affective as that would be, even I wouldnāt put you through that kind of torture.
Wouldnāt be the worst but thanks, kiddo.

āOh, certainly, you couldāve-ā Buckyās last words cut off his intended statement like a hot knife effortlessly slicing through butter. Natalia. Natasha. No, it couldnāt be the same red-headed Black Widow Natasha Romanoff heās known for yearsā¦right? Nat was prone to her secrets, becoming the expert in keeping intel hidden while enduring torture, so why should it come as a surprise she concealed something this significant under his very nose? āWhat.ā The shock caused the small word to flee from his lips in a flat fashion. More so flat than he ever anticipated. āI donāt understand how you two-ā¦I mean, itā¦ā Steveās features changed from emotion to emotion, going on a facial expression journey he never experienced before. āHow long has this been happening?ā
James lifted his eyes to Steveās, narrowing as he watched each emotions flickering just beyond his eyes; basically watching Steveās train of thought bounce around.Ā āLonger than you think, Steve,ā he said with a shrug, like it was the easiest thing to say-- when in reality, it went a lot deeper. Back then, he didnāt know who he was. Sergeant James BuchananĀ āBuckyā Barnes became nothing but the Winter Soldier-- frozen time and time again after his use was done. Nothing but a machine until he was tasked to work with the KGB and the Black Widow program. Meeting the one person who reminded him that he was human. āWho do you think helped train her to be the assassin she is?ā James said with a small shake of his head; it was another time, āso, doing the math, weāve technically been together close to a decade.ā Jamesā lips tilted in an apologetic smile, āit was never a secret from you, Steve, our paths just havenāt crossed until now.ā
quicklittlebastard-pietroā:
For a majority of the conversation, Pietroās gaze remain glued on Natasha, imagining himself loving someone as much as Bucky loved her. It was clear he noticed the way the two looked at each other when they thought nobody else saw the stolen glances at the farm or on missions. Yet, it wasnāt just the romantic kind of love flooding Pietroās thoughts. Even when he chose to stick out the stiff upper lip and pretend he was done dealing with Wandaās betrayal after betrayal, he knew there relationship wasnāt as easy as snipping the cord blinding them together as twins.Ā āAnd what if what is best for me for once in my life? Letting go?ā Piet could feel his jaw clench as he looked away,Ā āI think I can try having a lovely time partying, forgetting I had something like that in another sense, before being reminded every moment I pull out that picture. Wanda doesnāt get to dictate who I can be and she doesnāt dictate my entire life. She doesnāt get to do this to me. So, I ask again, what if letting go entirely is whatās better?ā
Jamesā eyes settled on the young boy, his face not betraying the thoughts that ran against his head-- there was so much that he didnāt know, but James knew that it wasnāt his place to tell. It was Wandaās.Ā āOnly you know if itās right to let go of someone,ā James said as he placed his hand gently on Pietroās shoulder,Ā āsometimes it hurts to hold onto someone-- but sometimes that pain is worse without them. Think about Natalia for a second-- she had to live years without me, years knowing that I was in the clutches of someone else, doing unfathomable things with no recollection of who she even was. Imagine what she went through, but deep down she knew that it was a pain worth living if she could see me in the end.ā His eyes wandered over the rest of the crowd, landing on each of the kids that were involved in the fights-- the pain echoed in their eyes.Ā āI may not have that answer for you, but while you figure it out, there are people here that care for you-- that only want whatās good for you, but also your sister. People who cared about you both who are also hurting and going through the same thing; youāre pushing them away, Pietro. Youāre letting go of the wrong people.ā
the-capsicle-steveā:
āI really think I mishear you. My best friend is already taken and he didnāt bother telling me.ā Question after question threatened to leave Steveās lips in the attempt at assuaging his relentless curiosity who could have captured Buckyās attention enough that he thought to keep the identity a secret. Buck smooth-talked his way through many women way back when, but nothing to sound this serious.Ā āI wouldnāt be where or who I am today without you, pal.ā Steve clinked his glass against the manās,Ā āNow, whatās her name?ā
James chuckled into his glass with a shrug. It wasnāt like heād kept it intentionally a secret-- everyone at the farm knew. Those that were in contact with him and Natalia on a regular basis knew, but he also knew that Steve had never been around both of them at the same time; it was all a surprise.Ā āIt could be a guy too, Steve, you never know,ā he said before taking a drink of his glass, before his landed on the red-head in question; who is and always will be the love of his life,Ā āher name is Natalia, though the rest of you know her as Natasha.ā
the-capsicle-steveā:
Youāll find someone for yourself one day, Buck.
āYou and me both.ā Steve guided them over to the one quiet corner in the room where a small wooden cabinet stood and wrenched open the door before pulling out a half-empty bottle of bourbon.Ā āTonyās emergency secret stash.ā He grabbed two glasses and poured the bottleās contents in each, handing one to Bucky,Ā āI feel like it seems appropriateĀ for a toast.ā
James couldnāt help but chuckle at the change of events. He remembered when they were in the forties-- it was always himĀ that set up double dates and roped Steve along. Now it was Steve getting married and trying to get a date for him.Ā āSteve, you donāt have to worry about that one, Iām already spoken for,ā he said with a simple shrug as he accepted the glass of the secret stashĀ that he had an inkling to think that Tony knew how much that it wasnāt secret anymore. He held the glass up towards his best friend,Ā āto you-- snagging one of the most eligible bachelors and finding your happiness. Proud of you, Stevie.ā
quicklittlebastard-pietroā:
āShe knows every single thing I do before I do it. I donāt know how but she does.ā Pietro casually followed Jamesā gaze as the older man cast a glance in Natashaās direction, sensing the meaning behind the stare clearly. He may have been young and only encountered brief flings on the rare occasion, but he knew what it meant.Ā āYou really love her, donāt you?ā Piet turned to look at him,Ā āI hope to experience a love like that one day. Pure, unconditional, unwavering love.ā
āSheās just that good,ā he said with a chuckle. If Natalia wasnāt that good, she wouldnāt have trained with him in the Red Room-- they never would have met, never would have become what they were now. His blue eyes blinked in Pietroās direction at the question that wasnāt really a question so much as a statement. Clint and the kids knew of Nataliaās relationship with him, but it was so much more. It spanned decades and something he was forced to forget countless times, yet it remained.Ā āMore than anyone,ā he said simply. There were no words that could ever describe his love for Natalia Alianovna Romanova.Ā āShe reminded me that I was more than a machine-- we held onto each other as they attempted to break our human side into the weapon they wanted.ā James grew silent for a beat,Ā āHydra tried to make me forget, but deep down, I remembered. Maybe not all the way-- but the color of her hair, a scent that reminded me of her-- they couldnāt wipe her completely away no matter how much they tried. If you ever find something like this, Pietro, neverĀ let it go. Ever.ā
thegabrielaxstarkā:
Too many to count. Itās quite tacky.
Do you need me to stand by you and glare anyone away? I find that itās particularly effective in social events.
thebrokenxballerinaā:
Well theyāll just have to get used to it.
You know... Iām glad you had this while I was in Hydraās control.
Iām glad you had this family to be able to keep you company and treasure the work you do and how much heart you have. It means a lot that theyāve been able to accept me, not just as Bucky or the Winter Soldier but as someone not held to those titles.
quicklittlebastard-pietroā:
āI cannot believe until I see the proof.ā Pietro distractedly flipped the flaskās screwed cap around a few times and grinned.Ā āShe wonāt catch me swiping it. I just hope a certain grumpy gills moody super-soldier wonāt rat me out.ā
James shrugged but raised a brow. His eyes crossed the Starkās party room until they landed on the redhead in question-- a small smile crossing his face before James turned his eyes back to the kids.Ā āIf you think Natalia doesnāt know what youāre doing, then you donāt know a single thing,ā James said simply,Ā āshe knows more than she ever lets on.ā
thebrokenxballerinaā:
It sounds possible. Hereās to just once.
The kids wonāt know what hitĀ āem with this new side of relaxingĀ James and Natalia.
xcarolxdanversxā:
So full time super-dad?
Definitely.
Never thought myself the full-time dad type, but itās worth it.
thebrokenxballerinaā:
It wouldnāt hurt.
As long as you relax with me, I think I can do it just this once.
quicklittlebastard-pietroā:
āLove to see you try, old man.ā Pietro watched the man closely, bating for his reaction to whatever free booze had been in the flask as he took it from Bucky.Ā āI must say cheers to who decided to provide their own alcohol tonight. Iām considering filling it with that Asgardian beverage Iāve heard rumors were at the bar.ā
āYou forget that Iām part super-soldier and can actuallyĀ do those things,ā James said with a chuckle as the flask was taken from his hands.Ā āYou do realize that Natalia is not going to give that Asgardian stuff to you, right?ā
the-capsicle-steveā:
From how I remember it, you were always having luck with the ladies.
I know you have the kids to take care of. How about I grab us a drink?
Only took a few decades for the roll to reverse, who knew?
Itāll have to be a pretty stiff drink, Stevie, but you bet.
xcarolxdanversxā:
Iāve been nodding and smiling alright. Are you one of the superhero friends or civilians?Ā
Iām not really either one of those, itās a little complicated.
Iām mainly here to make sure some kids stay in line. Especially the one that can run really fast and the one with the frosty attitude.
thebrokenxballerinaā:
Let them carry themselves home. Itāll teach them a valuable lesson.
I think this is more you telling me to let my hair down for once.
the-capsicle-steveā:
Makes him happy. Itās what Iām marrying into.Ā
I wouldāve understood if you wanted to take the night off.
Look at you. A soon-to-be married man-- always knew itād be you first.
Yeah, but it feels right being here; even if itās just a little.
