sat with this for a little longer and i’m absolutely fuming. they’re seriously just going to stop posting about women’s sports and stop “championing female athletes” on their main channels, and they’ve disguised it as showing their support for women. sky aren’t a nightclub offering women’s only nights so women have somewhere to feel safe, they’re a broadcaster whose job it is to report on all sports. and they think it’s completely okay to segregate female fans, athletes and sports from everything mainstream. i’m fed up.

The thing is they’re not even posting about women’s sports and “championing female athletes”. The Mamdani and Arsenal one *only* includes clips of the men’s team. Nothing of the Arsenal women’s team who are reigning champions league winners. All this account is belittling and patronising women.

daniel deserved fireworks. he deserved donuts in abu dhabi. he deserved his friends and family by his side. he deserved to go out on his own terms with his head held high. and he got none of that.

but there's something so special about this send off. the way all of the people he's interacted with have taken it upon themselves to give him the fanfare he deserves. most of the grid. teams he used to race for. teams he didn't race for. reporters. photographers. retired drivers. drivers from other series. people not related to motorsport at all.

the netflix account. grand prix accounts. the nfl account.

thousands and thousands of fans.

red bull was never the home he was returning to. it was all of the people who loved him. all of the people whose lives were made better by knowing him. they didn't get to celebrate him like they should have, but they're not letting him go quietly.
