a/n: owo thank you v much sakjksjkakl i HIGHKEY stalked ur blog before me and miss mod doppo made our blog HAHA anyways! enjoy i did hifumi’s part bc i love one (1) man –mod hifumi
big love for giving us a shout out!!! u already know i love u and ur stuff and i hope i’ve done doppo (my actual husband) justice!! – mod doppo
doppo lives somewhere on the edge, balancing work and overtime and the little time he does get off. he’s always anxious and tense, to the point he only ever smiles when he’s with you or hifumi.
it’s not that he doesn’t get upset so much as he learns to live with negativity; it’s easier to believe everything is his fault, and the little things piles up until he collapses from the strain of holding the world on his shoulders.
his co-worker’s coffee spilled on her nice white blouse? sorry. his boss didn’t get his copies of the files on time? sorry. the intern is late? sorry.
he holds it together well enough, anxiety always his constant companion, when the smallest things make him crumble: his boss tells him his work was sloppy, he misses the train home, his coworker snidely tells him he’s a screw up.
he’ll come home and shrug off his jacket, lying on the couch, shirt sleeves rolled up, his tie rumpled. you don’t think anything is wrong, not until you call him for dinner, and you notice he’s shaking. you rush over, food forgotten, and you ask him gently, urgently, what’s wrong.
he shakes his head, pressing the heels of his hands into his eyes: everything’s wrong, he’s wrong. it’s all his fault, the problems at work, and he’s not enough, he’s not doing enough, god, why is he such a failure–
you touch him on the arm, stroking your hands through his lovely hair. “it’s not your fault”, you tell him firmly. “what if it is?” “it’s not. it never is.”
he pulls you to him, then, and he’s burying his head into your shoulder as you hold him tightly to you. you tell him you love him, and you remind him that he tries to do too much; it’s not his fault if the coffee spilled, or his coworker forgot to give his boss the papers, or the intern overslept.
it’s okay to feel negative emotions, but it’s bad to let them take over his life. he doesn’t need to apologize for wrongs he did not perpetuate, and you tell him he’s wonderful, the most wonderful man in the world, and that everything will be okay.
you murmur reassurances that make him sigh, releasing all the tension, little by little, until he’s ready to sit up, eat your food, and then collapse into bed with you in his arms so he can sleep easy.
it takes a lot to make him upset; he’s an optimist, and he’s had enough troubles in his life so he tries to see the good as much as possible. sometimes it’s hard, so he forces down any negativity and bottles it up.
so, when he does show signs of being upset, they’re subtle. he wants to be comforted, but he doesn’t want to make you worry over him. hifumi wants you to always be smiling!
but even so, you start to pick up on the small signs of something being off: how his smile doesn’t quite reach his eyes when you greet him in the morning and he doesn’t rush over as fast as usual. the sunshine that he usually seems to emit is dulled.
instead of letting him continue to pretend he’s fine, you continue to press him, asking him to tell you what’s wrong, assuring him that he can tell you anything. the third time you ask, he breaks, tears welling up in his eyes as he pulls you close. his hands grip your jacket desperately, like you’ll fall through his fingers if he lets go, and you pull him down on the couch with you. he’s hiccuping and you let him vent to you, stroking his hair and whispering sweet words to him every so often (”shhh it’s okay babe… i’ve got you.”, “oh honey… you’re so strong”, “i love you so much you know that?”).
after he’s finished letting out all his bottled up emotions, he’ll look back up at you with puffy eyes and try and wipe away his tears. you grab his cheeks and kiss him on the nose, and he laughs a little bit. (his heartbreaking smile makes you so weak). you try and coax what’s wrong out of him, and he’ll tell you, and afterwards he mumbles that he’s probably just overreacting. you reassure him that he’s not exaggerating, and that if something bothers him that he shouldn’t keep it to himself. you assure him that you worry more if he’s keeping his negative emotions to himself for your sake, and that you’re always there to listen to him. hifumi says that you must be an angel before tackling you on the couch and planting kisses all over your face.
you two stay like that for a while, hifumi finally relaxing against your body as he sincerely thanks you for being with him through everything. you retort back that it’s nothing, you’re just being there for him like he’s always there for you (even if he did stain your favorite jacket with his tears).
