Okay, House of Leaves adaptation idea:
The protag is a content farm reaction YouTuber with only 50 subs. After nearly a decade of trying different content styles, theyāve never been able to get their channel off the ground; becoming disillusioned with their dreams of internet fame. One day, one of protagās friends sends them a link with the caption ācould make for some good reaction contentā.
The link leads protag to a YouTube playlist butā¦thereās something not right about the layout of the page. Itās still YouTube, but the UI is more reminiscent of how YouTube was design back in 2012 with slight variations. The playlist itself contains a multi-part video essay about ZampanĆ³ and The Navidson Records uploaded by someone called āJruantā. Despite a lack of eye catching thumbnails or clickbait titles, each video is raking in anywhere from 5-10 million views. The comments and likes on each video are disabled. Stranger still, each video is unlisted. Protag goes to Jruantās channel and finds only 3 publicly available videos with a couple thousand views from 20 years ago.
Protag is weirded out by the whole situation, especially since theyāve never heard of āZampanĆ³ā or āThe Navidson Recordsā; but if itās raking in views, why not give it a shot?
The story plays out as protag uploads reactions to the video essays, inter-spliced with personal blog style videos between each video. We watch as protag becomes more and more invested in Jruantās analysis of a book that doesnāt exist about a movie that doesnāt exist. Protagās spiral doesnāt truly begin until they noticed something strange in the third video. A blink and youāll miss it url at the bottom corner of the screen. Protag realizes thereās a fun ARG element to these videos and begins meticulously combing through each video, finding different links, downloadables, QR codes, etc.
Itās all fun and games for protag until they realize that Jruantās videos and all these ARG clues draw direct parallels to their life.
