I’m a dude and I condone this message. If she ain’t interested in a romantic relationship, just let it go. Doesn’t mean you can’t still hang out together like, y’know, regular people. Friends. Being friends is not a bad thing. Why do people make it a bad thing? I like friends. I like having dude friends. I like having lady friends. All kinds of friends are nice to have.

I never liked the term friendzone, though never really understood why I didn't like it, cause it has happened to me before....this sums it up perfectly. I like to remain friends....and I hate that the word friend becomes negative thanks to that word 'friendzone'. 

And yeah, it must really fucking SUCK as a girl to find out that the guy who you trusted and found cool to hang out with only did it to get in your pants...never really thought of it that way, but I can totally understand that it sucks.

Okay, uhm, I just feel I have to say; that initial “you wanna make out" thing? You can honestly not blame a dude for at least trying once. Especially so if you never made it a point to state that you’re not looking for romance. You can casually drop this hint in regular conversation when the opportunity arises, and unless the guy in question is really dense and/or a douche, they’ll probably get it and not try anything. So after that first “try", at that point it’d be kind of a jerk move if you IMMEDIATELY wrote him off as someone you don’t want to hang out with anymore. Just tell him that you’re not looking for any romance right now; if he’s actually a decent guy he’ll back off. If not, well, then there’s always enough time to ditch him then. "But wait!" I hear some of my followers think, “Are you actively encouraging girls to drop guys in the *gasp* FRIENDZONE!?" Well frankly, yes! The “friendzone" is a thing that exists, and can be a very cool place to be in if you actually care for each other as a friend. Girls can be awesome friends without actually being girlfriends, if you give them a chance.

Shut the fuck up. I can absolutely blame a guy if he immediately jumps to trying to get in a girl’s pants with no regard to whether or not she actually wants that kind of attention. He’s not even trying if he’s asking off the bat right out if he wants to make out or date, he’s just being a thirsty jackass who clearly doesn’t give a shit where he gets it, and i am not obligated to respect that.

Besides, if you had read my comic, you would know, i’m speaking specifically about people who are /friends/ of mine. People who have gotten past introductions, know i’m gay and taken, know I am not looking for a relationship, and still think — much like you — that a guy is entitled to a “first try" as long he thinks I didn’t make it clear enough I wasn’t interested. Which is bullshit, and you are exactly the kind of dickbag I’m talking about if you disagree.

P. S. The friendzone is a term people use when they think that they’ve been slighted into a state where someone they feel is obligated to give them romantic potential “ignores them", while in fact the person being “ignored" is refusing to acknowledge that the other party may not have ever wanted romance, or thought it was okay to introduce it to the relationship. You can’t even call it the “friendzone" if the guy is just desperately hounding after some girl he either barely knows or doesn’t care about enough to respect her feelings on their relationship.

I do not owe any man anything. If he tries to trick me into dating him, or if he tries to pursue me after I have made it clear by MY definition that I don’t want it, I can feel free to cut him from my life completely, and I should not be made out to be the bad guy for wanting to feel comfortable in all of my friendships and relationships.

I um, wow, okay. Look. I was only judging the comic from what I saw. I have not followed you before, am not familiar with your situation besides what I read just now, and I merely saw the comic on its own merit after being reblogged by a friend. First of all, no, it was not clear to me that you were “gay and taken". What I mistakenly saw in my objective interpretation, was a heterosexual woman looking for a guy to be friends with in a non-romantic way, and pushing him away after he attempted to make a move, and interpreted that last panel as a “defense mechanism" of sorts to keep guys at bay. Your actual sexual preference was not clear to me via the rest of the comic’s context. So my apologies for misinterpreting that.

No, it was also not clear to me that you already specifically meant that panels 3 and 4 alluded to someone who was already familiar with you to the point that they knew about your sexual preference and relationship status. Hell, I didn’t even know about the “taken" part until you literally said so just now. I also specifically stated that one can’t blame a guy for trying once IF they are not aware about this, and brought forth the option to casually correct them if that is the case.

And yes, my interpretation of the “friendzone" is actually the same as yours - if you review what I said, I actually alluded to it not even being a bad thing, and should simply be seen as, y’know, being a friend. Because that’s what it is, and should be. No more, no less. I actually did say that once a guy has been “friendzoned" and still tries making romantic advances, that there’s “always enough time to ditch him then". I wasn’t even disagreeing with you there. I was merely stating that a guy shouldn’t be discouraged from trying to pursue romantic interests — BUT if they’re “shot down", so to speak, that they should just back off and try seeking their romance elsewhere. However, being shot down romantically should not be a reason for a friendship to end, as long as they’ve come to a mutual understanding that what they have is strictly platonic.
