you pick up your highlighter, aligning your ruler against the bottom of the text, dragging the tip of your pastel purple highlighter smoothly across the page, highlighting the important parts of the text that you need to keep track of.
"why are you always highlighting stuff?" jeno comments casually, downing another gummy bear.
you roll your eyes without even sparing him a glance, highlighting the next chunk of text as you reply almost monotonously, "studies show that the brain absorbs information better when there's colour."
jeno shrugs, leaning back into his chair as he holds up his notes, holding them against the light. "i like it better black and white," he says, shoving the paper into your line of vision, probably just to irritate you. you flick his wrist, causing him to retract his hand immediately. "what was that for?" he whines, rubbing the spot you flicked, as though it actually hurts.
"tell that to the Cs and Ds on your report card," you snipe, dropping your highlighter on your table as you reach your arms to the ceiling, stretching your extremely sore shoulders and back. as you yawn, you accidentally stop your yawn too quickly, causing the usual fit of hiccups to follow after.
"karma," jeno smirks, looking at you all smug as you uncontrollably let out little gasps. you press your hand to your chest, trying to calm yourself down in an attempt to regulate your breathing again.
"jerk," you manage out, immediately gasping for air as another hiccup interrupts your breathing.
you pick up your highlighter once more, trying to push through and ignore your hiccups as you continue to read the next paragraph of the text.
"hey," jeno calls. you turn to face him, "wha-"
jeno swoops in, leaning his entire body forward towards you, stopping just short of his lips meeting yours. your breath catches in your throat as your whole body tenses up. he smiles, while you blink frantically, your heart literally about to burst out of your body. you swallow hard, barely managing to let out the words, "what the hell are you doing?"
"your hiccups," he states nonchalantly, still refusing to move away. with him this up close, your entire vision is literally filled with just his idiotically adorable, twinkly crescents he calls eyes - the very thing that you find yourself thinking about just before you sleep every night. as though on cue, you let out another hiccup.
"they say shocking someone is effective in stopping hiccups," he continues, finally leaning away as though what he just did was the most normal thing in the world. "guess that's a myth," he mumbles.
you finally let out a long breath, swallowing hard again.
"was that not shocking enough?" he says, mostly to himself. "i might have to try giving you a peck or something for you to actually be shocked enough to stop the hiccups," he finishes off, casually focusing his attention back on his notes.
you stare at his side profile. he says all of that so easily, like those words and actions don't mean anything at all.
lee jeno is dangerous.
extremely dangerous for you.
