THE CURE | Boys Don't Cry
Friend and I are debating whether something is common knowledge or not.
Without looking it up, do you know what a selkie is?
yes
no

I feel like asking Tumblr specifically if they're aware of a myth that revolves around romantic notions of sacrificing freedom and trusting the person you love to not abuse your trust and being so devoted to someone you'll hand over the most precious thing you own and also hot naked ladies is not a good test of something being common knowledge.
okay, somebody remind me to see how this poll turned out. IDK why because we know how it turns out. I guess cuz I voted... now I'm stupidly invested.
“But don’t forget who you really are. And I’m not talking about your so-called real name. All names are made up by someone else, even the one your parents gave you. You know who you really are. When you’re alone at night, looking up at the stars, or maybe lying in your bed in total darkness, you know that nameless person inside you.”
— Louis Sachar
Oh, and this should be saved, too
so I've got a theory that I don't want anybody to give a shit about. The systemic transphobia and transmisogyny persist becuse it's... systemic. Some of those involved aren't being let in on all the info, only enough to validate or rationalize the disastrous, biased actions. Matt seems like a pawn. He put way too much work in his apologia.
The talking point is that predstrogen made threats or wishes of violence, and that is the ultimate reason for her suspension(s?) and terminations. It's as clear as black and white. But the other side, consistently ignored and unaddressed, is that those "threats" (c'mon, now) *wishes* were in response to threats and hate speech. Those behaviors were not addressed, according to those involved and who witnessed at the time.
Sure, we'd like to see screenshots. I hope they get circulated. It's hard to have any progress from here without them.
I guess that's it:
(A) The "I was just following orders" defense, plus the right hand maybe not knowing what the left hand is doing. It all adds up to a big pile of bias and malice embedded in the inner workings of the platform and its staff. There may be some incompetence in there, but that may just be a poor excuse for the rest.
(B) Threats went unaddressed, and things escalated as a direct result of tumblr's lack of action. After repeated abuse and threats, what would you do? What would a human being with a full range of human emotions do? Cornered and threatened in a place they once felt at home? Go on the offensive, you bet any of us would. Her spaces were repeatedly invaded. And when she responded in kind, oh it's suddenly actionable! Imagine that. It's only not okay when one of those people do it. This is at the heart of tumblr bias: Uneven enforcement of TOS.
And of course, enforcement is utterly opaque. No way are they going to let us in on how the sausage is made. No diagram of how many complaints it takes or how different blogs' complaints are weighted for validity. Do you see?
"Oh, I don't know. I didn't see any of that. I only saw what got sent to my desk and then I uncritically took action without asking any questions. And I assure you that my personal beliefs would never allow me to lift a single phobic/misogynistic finger against you folks."

Do you ever...
Unfollow a blog for posting (too much) A.I. content/ images?
Block such a blog?
Both of the above.
None of the above.
None, but I generally dislike A.I. images/ content.
And of course, add comments. Why or why not, etc. Your responses/ opinions about a.i. outside of tumblr. What you think about a.i. imagery appearing on tumblr. It's use on other platforms / as art.
One sad story at one go
Jordan Peterson on Woke Professors.
THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR YEARS - THE INDOCTRINATION OF YOUNG.
Jo-Pete is a walking, blathering idiot test.
Whoever can't see this dude is a nitwit and a ninny fails the idiot test. He's been blathering about things outside his field of study for most of his career. How is he anybody's idea of a smart person? I mean, he's probably got an IQ of 110, 115 tops. But subtract from that a solid 40 points for his hubris alone. He has no academic rigor to his spewings. He rants, and people keep paying him, so he keeps ranting. This is not a basis for reliable theory. This is rationalization of emotional thinking, instead of drawing rational conclusions from reliable information.
He's just... complaining about things he's decided are bad, based on ideology, not any kind of data. It's based on feelings, paranoia, indoctrination--ironically.
Other professors have been running rings around him because he's out of his element. So he's jealous.
