Fuck it, adding on: This is why it's frustrating to see criminal defense lawyers getting a bad rep.
The right to a fair trial is a human right. In practice, a fair trial necessitates a lawyer. This means that even if somebody committed the worst crimes you could possibly imagine, they still deserve a lawyer.
Somebody has to defend them as a matter of human rights. As one of my professors said, way back in my first semester at uni: "Everybody deserves to have somebody in their corner."

The a car fight scene but with carriages against the EC. Darius is driving while Raine, Eber, and Lilith as well as King and Hooty are on top of the roof.
Darius: CAN YOU BLAST THEM ALREADY?
Raine: WHAT PART OF COVEN SEAL LIMITS MAGIC ARE YOU FORGETTING?

toh theory: eda’s destruction/decay magic can be used to destroy coven sigils—and she destroyed darius and eberwolf’s sigils during eda’s requiem
that’s why darius thinks that eda can be used to counteract the draining spell on the day of unity—he knows for a fact that she can get rid of the coven brands, which would ruin belos’s plan.
darius was completely covered by eda’s magic, and we don’t see it clearly, but eberwolf’s hands/arms (where their coven brand would be) were likely also hit
meanwhile raine ended the spell before it could get to their arms, hence why their brand wasn’t destroyed and kikimora was able to use it against them later
Cool Aunt Lilith doesn’t seem to have a coven brand either, even though she was the head witch of the Emperor’s Coven, and I doubt he just like. removed her brand after she betrayed him. so her brand could have been destroyed when she took half the curse from Eda.
and this might be an animation error, but guess who else had bare forearms in a recent ep?
Thinking about how the Emperor's Coven mirrors The Owl House much better now
Belos clearly mirrors Eda; a younger sibling dealing with something hurting them (Eda with the curse and Belos with the palismen). Both had an issue go on with their older sibling, too
The only difference is that Eda is more healthy. Eda cares for her sister despite everything and, thanks to Luz, they managed to talk things out. Which I'm guessing is the opposite for Belos; despite having Collector on his side, maybe they didn't help him at all (he even joked about how Belos makes grimwalkers just to kill them)
Then we have the curse... Eda finally started to accept the curse more. Belos, however, decided to attack the palismen souls in his mind
Then we have Luz and The Collector. They're both connected to a space theme and are like kids (Luz because she's 14 and Collector because he's very child like/is an ancient child)
If The Collector did want to say 'humanity' when trying to rhyme, it's possible that Collector also has some kind of negative experience with humans. Just like Luz does
However, Luz is the opposite. Instead of wanting revenge, Luz doesn't want to hurt people. Instead she cares while he wants destruction
The way we were show Collector in both episodes also shows how they're the opposite. Luz is seen in bright colours, matching her name and making her seem like the 'sun'. Collector has been seen in monochrome, matching that of the night and making them seem like the 'moon'
Luz knows to respect her surroundings. She even agrees to learn to. Collector just collects his surroundings, not caring if they should or shouldn't
Luz is as warm as the sun while Collector comes across as cold as the moon. Yet they're both linked in ways because of the space theme
Sadly this is all I can say at the moment about these two since we still have a lot to discover about Collector!
Next up is Kiki and Lilith. These two have issues with family (mother mostly). They also work hard to prove themselves
The only difference is that Lilith managed to get out of an abusive situation and surround herself with people who care and support her. Kikimora is still stuck and feels unable to reach out, especially now that she most likely got disowned by her family for not visiting during the parade
Like with Collector, there's still stuff about Kikimora that has yet to be told
Last is King and Hunter. Both were living a life full of lies, believing that they were something important. But then this was proved incorrect
King was still accepted, however. Through the pain of learning the truth, he was helped and still loved. Though his past was a lie, his love for others wasn't
Hunter was different. Belos wanted him dead. Despite going through pain, Belos made it clear he didn't love the boy he called family. Later, once out of Belos' mind, he ran away and, as far as we know, we're not sure if someone actually went after him/found him (we can only hope this happened)
There's also the fact that, as of writing this, neither knows what they are or the truth about their past. However King has his family who are willing to help! Hunter currently doesn't have anything like that, especially since the man who made him instantly tried to murder him
The coven head rebellion desperately needs Eda's criminal experience
My arguments in chronological order:
Firstly we have the BATs and the fact that they had accomplished nothing until the owl lady joined. Then they did three raids at same time.
A few episodes later we had a plot twist that told us Raine is faking the brainwashing and the heads are digging tunnels in the castle. And now the theory that they are already busted by Belos is all over the place for a good reason.
Hollow mind started with canonically telling us information about these three has already leaked.
And now my favourite part:
Not only did they have an important ritual in a crowded place like a market... They had a FUCKING FIREWORK SHOW🤦.
Why did none of them take the potion. Darius can literally teleport people. I doubt he can't a small object. Honestly all of them could take it if they tried.
Also what were they trying to accomplish by getting in Belos' mind. They have sigils on them, he can kill them in an instant. Luz and Hunter might have saved their lifes.
And finally: "a secret admirer" I thought Eda wasn't suppose to find you...

For some reason i can't stop imagining the rebellion forgetting about the writing Raine did Infront of the owl house and leaving it there for everyone to find.
Although I don’t recognize exactly where Eda is standing in this screenshot from the promo, I believe that she is outside or near the Emperor’s Castle. The orange-gold colors and angular designs of the background resemble the setting of Eda and Lilith’s showdown in Agony of a Witch.
Also, Eda’s surrounded by vines that resemble ones made with plant magic. Although these vines could have come from anywhere, I can’t help but notice that similar vines surround Raine in this new end credits shot:
Taking both of these things into account, I’m thinking that Eda will have a battle with someone outside of the Emperor’s Castle that parallels her season 1 fight with Lilith, except this time, she will be attempting to rescue Raine instead of Luz. Who that someone may be, I’m not sure; unless I’m mistaken, we don’t currently know much about any witch in the plant coven besides Willow, who I doubt would be fighting Eda. But regardless, the idea of a showdown that mirrors AOAW is intriguing and a little frightening. Depending on how hard the writers lean into the parallels, perhaps Raine will be freed, but in order to make that happen, Eda will have to make yet another grave sacrifice.

Differences
1. Being adult figures in children's lifes
Eda is an only parent of someone from another species and a temporary guardian to someone from another dimension, which in her world means their future is questionable and one has food allergies. She isn't a perfect one and is not nice towards kids that don't live in her house.
Lilith is an almost child murderer and is jealous of a sixteen year old. She trauma projected on her nephew. But she also saved King's life twice and Luz's ones.
2. Powers
As a wild witch the owl lady learned in every way, even from school by sneaking in classes. My guess is that this made learning extremely fun for her. This made it possible for her to continue to learn even as an adult.
She also learns through experimentation which means before she learned the basics, she almost got herself killed a lot of times. I'm assuming that she survived thanks to Lilith.
As a cult member, she is someone who never questioned authority, this comes from the fact that she was neglected as a child and needed validation.
At first this helped, cause both she and Eda are alive. But the school in the boiling isles took away her curiosity and joining the coven didn't help.
I believe both sisters had the same amount of talent and hunger for power but the enjoyment was the deciding factor. And this factor was a big one.
3. Showing care
Thanks to running away from the system, the criminal made an emotionally supportive system around her.
She is very mature. The show hasn't yet explained where she learned all this. Best guess for now is Raine, but were both of them that smart at such a young age.
She is selfless, but she also knows how not to be self-sacrificing. That's pretty rare, though to be fair it's not the perfect balance.
There are a lot of mistakes she has made though, but I think all of them can be fixed if she learns to open up, cause her other mistakes always happen when she's too scared or is trying to feel more.
The cop is easily in the top two most immature people in the show. (Fighting for the first spot with Hunter.)
I guess thirty years of isolation with someone, that used the fact that his system had influenced her to be very vulnerable to manipulation, does stuff to a person.
She's either self-sacrificing or ruining someone else's life, usually both. Considering her main motivation is caring, this is painful to watch.
The most mature we've seen her so far, obviously it's after she left the coven, was her acknowledgment of Hooty's efforts and more impressively her not using the fact she's better at glyphs than Eda to make fun of her.
Problem is she overworked herself while having a new curse.
Then s2ep4 happened and she trauma projected on a child, I'm expecting she's nowhere close to realising that was a bad idea.
She also left Hooty after telling him "Are you my mother, cause that's an awful lot of judgement?" without apologizing.
Luckily she's writing supportive letters, so it didn't hit him that much.
Her decision to leave had me facepalm. She just left a person, that has been dealing with the complexities of her being in the coven for thirty years and is easily the only thing that kept her sane and her new friend for someone that for one day acknowledged her existence.
Plus by the way they talked about the father he hasn't visited her at all.
We've already seen the negative effects from this choice on Eda and Hooty, can't wait for hers.
I refuse to believe that this is gonna end well, cause it's possible but it's gonna be luck. And the lesson from this will be "Parents with good intentions change in a day." And trust me when I tell you that is far from the truth.
My parents have been changing, but so freaking slowly it hurts. Fairly they were more flawed and now a bit better than Gwen but still the change has been taking place my whole childhood and until now I've either been refused help or gotten stuck with a bad mental health professional.
Only now am I getting actual help. I'm expecting a speed run after sixteen years of unintentional parental abuse but it's not gonna happen in a day and it's foolish to believe so.
Also we didn't see her watching King's video on her sister's account. Which has to mean something. Why did they show everyone but her?
4. Respecting others
Eda was the favourite child or at the very least she got a lot of attention for being younger. Also I refuse to believe that her parents did anything about her "breaking the classroom" behaviour.
But she respects a lot of people's opinions. Whether it's a bard with stage fright, a child from unknown species or a teen from another dimension. She's gotten close to all three of them. And they have all shaped her point of view (except for Raine but fairly enough we know nothing about their relationship with her).
So what about her complete "I don't care about Lilith's point of view."
Well it's not just her. It's a huge hatred towards "Belos is a saint." She grew up in this system, she had this opinion at one point herself. She isn't hearing anything new from her.
She doesn't have a right to laugh at her but she has a right to refuse to talk about it with someone that refuses to go beyond "It's just the right thing."
Talking about that, it took Eda almost dieing for this stubbornness to shake. No one could tell her Belos is wrong.
On top of that she lived (and "lives" but that's kinda debatable) with huge amounts of fear from both Belos and thanks to his gaslighting, Eda and was working a job that asked of her to be a workoholic.
This makes her emotionally exhausted which makes it hard for her to question stuff. How do you do that when you can barely think?
Eda worked on her laughing in the beginning of season 2 but I'm not sure how she'll act now. Because after Raine seemingly died, she acted awful towards Hunter. She needs ways of handling her trauma outside of making fun of people.
Lilith did too. Firstly, she commited treason and she was also quite open to King being the king of demons.
Now, it was idiotic to believe in it. She's shaking between Belos is always right and wild magic is always right. She needs middle ground.
What's funny is Eda has found the middle ground that works for herself. She's reading books from the local library and is known for being a wild witch.
Because she's scared of hurting others she isolated herself and that gave the wrong impression to the fandom.
She's the one that believes in the healing and potions covens, not her mom.
5. Recklessness
Eda has a one-sided grudge against a twelve year old. I will never shut up about this.
When she was young she broke everything in sight. But now at the very least she's not breaking her own house.
I think it's a bit better.
For before I think it was ignorance, because she was a child. But now it's her coping. She knows better than this.
Everything the ex coven head does is without thinking, even Eda's rescue.
She can't go beyond "Well she is my sister and we had a good past with each other."
"And how can you prove that she hasn't changed?"
"Well, she saved my life and I actually played a game with her."
If she can say the last sentence, ignore me but I don't know if she can.
Honestly I just wanted to compare the good and bad, but I ended up saying Lilith didn't have a life. And honestly she didn't. She wasn't a positive in anyone's life including her own. She was doing her best to become a robot. She doesn't have opinions or ideas of her own that she respects.
Eda said the words "It's my power, kid and before you showed I spend my whole life wasting it." Eda wasted her powers by isolating herself from people, but she didn't waste her mind. Lilith wasted both.
Her importance in Eda's childhood is the only positive, because she didn't respect herself. Her thirty years in the coven was straight up waste. Nothing positive to both her and others happened, after an action of hers in that period and that's just sad.
It's not too late for her obviously. It's never too late for people that want to change. She was already living. She had a new friend. She was restoring her relationship with Eda. She was begining to have her own opinions... AND THEN SHE JUST LEFT.
I know this is good writing, because everyone goes through their ups and downs. Plus Lilith's biggest fears recently came to life.
man some of y’all are so boring, let characters be flawed. stop tryna justify their actions, the reason they did that is because they suck and that’s infinitely more interesting than trying to spin the narrative around to make them seem like a perfect person
Half-agree. I like characters to have flaws and I don't want every action to be justified to make them look better. However, I think 'because they suck' is a boring reason. I want to explore the character's motivations, even - perhaps especially - if that doesn't make them more sympathetic.
1. Drug the other adult! It might help them manage their chronic condition. You're risking their health but eh, if something happens it's gonna be their problem.
2. Stalk the children! It will help you learn all their secrets and they will definitely be happy with the amount of trust you have in them, the feeling of always being watched and so on.
3. Eat the children! They can't escape so this means all trust issues will now be gone.
4. Kidnap the children! This is a minus trust issue. The kids will love you.
5. Murder the children, if they disagree or worse their showing signs that it might have not worked well for their mental health! Who needs them when adults exist?
