So I’m rereading a Yuri on Ice fic I wrote back in 2017 called Feathers on the Ice and I just. I love how my own mind loves to lies to me.

Because I 100% believed this Phichit/Seung-gil fic was going to end up 20k words or fewer.

20k! A fic that ended up just shy of 80k! What exactly did I think I was going to cram into 20k??? I’m halfway through rereading it and I’m like, “Awww that’s when I decided to create four brothers for Seung-gil, all of whom had to have distinct personalities and dynamics with Seung-gil and Phichit. I also had to include every skater in the circuit, all of Phichit’s social media, the hamsters—”

And then I finished the almost-80k fic and wrote a 100k+ sequel. Because Seung-gil needed a POV I GUESS?

THESE TWO NEVER SPOKE IN CANON.

I basically wrote two novels off the strength of Seung-gil watching Phichit’s skate on his laptop in his Seoul apartment and saying one nice thing about Phichit to himself out loud.

God, Yuri on Ice was perfect. :’)

Also, rereading this now that I’m five years deep into Thai BL fandom is ten times funnier because in 2017 I had zero connection to Thailand other than my fondness for Phichit, a Thai character in a Japanese anime. I was living in Japan in 2017, had never been to Thailand, and had no idea that the future fandom of my heart was going to be based in Phichit’s home country. I remember trying to find out as much about Seoul and Bangkok as I could from the internet to write Feathers on the Ice—information I got to revisit years later when the Thai BL bug got me. :’>

You will notice if you read it though that Phichit spends a lot of time at home, and that is on purpose.

Now that I’ve actually been to Thailand, maybe…

I mean I haven’t rewatched Yuri on Ice in ages…
