I’ve been thinking of Orion Pax lately, and the Transformers One trailer really made me feel some things…….

Pax is one of my favorite ‘characters’ (yes, I know he’s Optimus) in the entire TF franchise. I’ve always loved the concept of the Optimus Prime, a legendary leader and warrior, starting out as a mere archivist on Cybertron. At the same time, it’s always made me feel a little melancholic to think about where Orion’s story goes. It’s not particularly happy, a path of bloodshed, loss, and sorrow.

To see Orion portrayed in the TF1 trailer with such a bubbly and open demeanor made my heart ache a little. I know that TF1 is a different continuity, but I can’t help but mourn the bot who came before Optimus. The trailer is goofy (and I’m sure the movie will be too) but it was so refreshing to see ‘Optimus’ smile, joke, and actually have a relationship with Megatron/D-16 that wasn’t just an enemy trope. I’ve thought about Orion for a long, long, time given he’s a comfort character and a fascination of mine; it’s different to have a general idea of Pax vs. an actual media that shows a lost side to Prime.

My head won’t stop reeling and I’m so fucking tempted to take this revelation and run with it towards the fic section of the fandom. Please, Orion was so sweet and sassy and we don’t deserve him.

Tldr; Orion was a sweetheart, and I miss him. The new TF One trailer is making me feel things, and now suddenly I’m back in the clutches of everything TF :(

Specific things in Transformers Prime (sad edition): In season 1-2, Starscream does not do this. However, in season 3 Starscream raises his hand (usually the right) to cover his face whenever Megatron comes at him. What is worse is that he doesn’t try to get away, but freezes up and sometimes shuts his eyes entirely. In season 1 he tried much harder to get away, but now he just submits, as though hoping it will be over soon. Even when possessed Megatron made a sudden movement, Starscream instinctively raised a hand to his face. And in the end, Starscream reacted the same way when Megatron yelled at him, since Megatron jerked suddenly and frightened him. You can’t see the hand, but his arm definitely moves (more clear when you watch the clip).

I believe in script we had it so that his eyes were repaired by the time he’s taken over Maccadam’s. Since this didn’t happen as intended, I imagine he keeps pushing his doctor’s appointment with Ratchet, conceding that there more important matters Ratchet must attend to first, like Windblade. Ya know Perceptor, he has other means of perception.
