List of things I struggle with in the modeling industry. 1. My size; I'm a 14/16. For some companies I "look to small". For some I am to small. For some I'm to big. 2. My body; these stretch marks have prevented me from getting work. I got rolls, back fat, and to much skin. No for real, that's what my notes said on a casting I went to.3. My height; I have literally had people say I was to tall. 4. My skin; I'm a black girl. It can only be one of us, or maybe two. It saddens me, because it more of us. 5. My face; I literally had a casting director tell me I was to pretty. Then said I needed to work harder to book the job because my face was distracting. 6. My age; the women on the left of me is my mother. For some reason the modeling industry still equates beauty with age. My mother has no problem telling anyone she's the mom and I'm the daughter. And it add insult to injury she throws in the fact that she's 57. Yes the woman in these pictures is my mother and she's 57 years old. Dear world age DOES NOT DEFINE BEAITY. Just look at my mom, shes not less beautiful because she's older. She glows and radiates beauty PERIOD. You see that glow. Shout out to #mysister because that's what people think when they see us. You're the real MVP, because I have her face. Khoudia Diop: The Model Redefining Beauty Standards
She has been through alot in her life, she experienced bullying because of her skin color and tried to wash it off in her childhood, but now she dreams of going back and tell herself not to be ashamed of her skin. Now she knows that being dark-skinned is a gift and want to tell all the dark-skinned girls to be proud of their skin, too. Ā This is the message worth spreading.

One day I was on IG feeling extremely bad for myself, watching other models flood my timeline with work and behind the scene images. I hadn't booked a job in four month, and I lost all my regular clients (which was only two to begin with, but that's another conversation). I was trying to figure out what I was doing wrong, why wasn't I booking these job or retaining these clients. Is it me; am I not good enough? Is the information I've been feeding myself wrong, should I not be doing this. I was dealing with really dark depression and crazy anxiety. And on the real, if it wasn't for my partner I WOULD NOT BE HERE. (He believed in me when I didn't believe in myself. He loved me when I had lost all ability to love myself and I will be forever grateful for him.) So on one of these dark days he suggested I follow more #carefreeblackgirls and when he makes I suggestion I usually listen (when I'm not being stubborn) because he knows me better than myself. And one day during one these follow session because I do it all the time now I came across a picture and said to myself, "who is this dope ass bald girl, I'm following her and that her would be the beautiful spirit that is @kailaboulware and, because of those mass follows a started believing in myself. Because of those mass follows this collaboration was made. This images is all the feels I feel about myself. This images tells me I'm on the right path and to keep going. And all I ask is that this images ends up on someone's timeline and it inspires someone to believe in theirselves like others have done for me. So this is for all the black girls wondering if their beautiful for whatever reason. Yes you are my dear, and don't let anyone else tell you other wise. -Monique #blackgirlmagic #blackgirlsglow #blackjoy #moniquerobinson #iadoremo #forthepeople (at New York, New York)
