could play w some very interesting dynamics here (ie. what if there was no betrayal and ex libris continued on in its structured cult form, if we're swapping wave and buddys positions you could theoretically make buddy the old man (please do not do this to my boy.. this would be sacrilegious to the source material and his journey of not seeing himself as a villain))

anyways yeah it was a thought i had. not sure how i feel about it personally but for the sake of the grieving im throwing it out there

just thinking about the symbolism and like foils and stuff in today's episode and actually just as a whole within cinderella boy! spoilers for today's episode below - i'll add a divider as well cause its actually sort of long (shocker i can write on occasion)

like wave the mortal wanting immortality and buddy the immortal (key) wanting humanity and a normal finite life.

wave being SO MUCH like narcissus - for context narcissus was a man cursed to fall in love with his reflection who wastes away because he's so obsessed with it that he can't leave or stop staring. although they don't have the exact same story, the core concept of them seeing a beautiful version of themselves in their reflection while wasting away in reality is so interesting!! also the fact that wave doesn't really seem to care about genuine romantic connection as much as he did the admiration of those who watched him act, which in ways is similar to narcissus being proud.

wave being an actor in general as well really interests me, if you can consider his purpose in the story as the ex-libris traitor and the old man to be different 'roles' of his within the webtoon itself. even now, up until this episode and the last one, he has been 'acting' as a college student to our main cast. also he has been the traitor twice, first to ex libris and now to us as readers/the main cast

wave using the lover key is also so interesting because in a way the role is a reversal of what he did his whole life - passionately loving instead of receiving passionate love. its not great in relevance but wave just generally never took his roles seriously anyway.

i also find it interesting how we don't yet know anything about his life before his career as an actor - is there any reason he turned out the way he did? i have the feeling we're probably not going to get much more on his backstory

I also know so many people have already discussed the significance of reflections but another small pointer to how people are so much more used to seeing their reflected self than what they look like in reality that we think we look 'better' in the mirror than on camera - id elaborate on this if i wasnt so lazy

something something buddy the villain key is a villain to wave because he ruined the wish ritual but he's a protagonist to us and the main cast because he stopped the wish ritual from working perfectly. insert reference to 'villain' by stella jang which to summarise is a song about how there is no black-and-white villain or hero because those are roles relative to the perspective with which you view a story or event, and this as a concept is something I think is really crucial to cinderella boy as a whole. buddy and violet despite being the villain and villainess keys respectively are not the antagonists in cinderella boy, and wave who played many hero roles as an actor is the antagonist. you are not defined by your pre-defined archetypal 'role' in this story, but rather the actions you carry out.

i dont have anything else now but i may add more someday. anyway yeah that's it, i do offer free tumblr-dm based therapy if anyone is still mourning the death of any inkling of hope for in-canon seahorse :)
