@iammorganlefay
one day we will wake up to his obituary
These exist. The problem is that these characters are usually called the villains.
When I was a kid I read a ton of books that were definitely not appropriate for my age. One of two things would happen:
I was too inexperienced to understand what I was reading, and it had no effect on me.
I understood what I was reading, and I leveled up.
#2 lays bare the reason some people want to keep books out of the hands of others. They want you ignorant.
Every time a small child starts crying or having a tantrum in my vicinity and I catch the parents glancing at me I’ve started saying “me when…”.
Friend kept trying to tell his crying kindergartener to calm down and relax and the kid growled “I AM relaxed” while visibly tensing every muscle in his body and I was like “oh that’s me at work every day” and we had a chuckle.
Parents look to other adults like “shit are they mad? Do they think my kid is acting like a demon?” And this response is my attempt to say “no. I think your kid is just acting like a human being.”
I WISH I could fling myself on the ground and cry because I experienced a minor inconvenience.
"not even trying to be reactionary or "edgy" or say this shit for shock value. i genuinely mean what i say. corporations giggle at protesting. why would anyone ever willingly come down off their throne that they've spent years building off the suffering of their fellow man? nobody is getting visited by the ghost of christmas future. no one is having a change of heart, it's simple. you make them fear for their lives and hit them in the only place they hurt or nothing will ever get done. i don't even see how that's an incredibly radical idea. it seems quite straightforward to me. "violence is never the answer" wrong. sometimes it is ¯\_(ツ)_/ "
"the world is burning and it's very clear who's holding the matches"
Genuinely think the only way to approach art is to like the things you like instead of tearing down what other people like.
"You should read classics because those are real literature unlike that TikTok garbage." Bad. Turns people away from reading the classics because it makes them sound stuffy and boring and makes you sound like a snob.
"You should read classics because this book is amazing! I love the characters and the story, and it's so cool to read a story that uses different techniques than modern fiction does." Good. Makes people want to read the classic. Suggests there's something good in this story instead of just suggesting that other stuff is worse.
"You don't like the modern art? That's because you're an unwashed plebeian who only likes what's pretty." Bad. Puts down the person and makes them even less likely to be interested in this type of art.
"Wow, I love this painting! Look at the technique! I love the message behind it!" Good. Helps the person to appreciate what might not be obvious at first glance, instead of shaming them for not automatically knowing this.
"You should watch this show because it's so much better than that other garbage show." Antagonizes people who like the garbage show and makes them less likely to feel positively toward the show you like.
"You should watch this show because it has great writing/characters/plot etc." Good! Tells people what makes this show appealing and makes them want to try it.
"I listen to this music because it's real art and not that manufactured pop garbage." Bad. Makes your genre seem like an exclusive club of snobs that I don't want to join.
"I listen to this music because I like the sound. Here, listen to this song." Good! Shows me something good within the genre and may encourage me to explore further.
There's a place for criticism. You don't have to like or approve of everything. But it's not a great technique for getting people to like art. Hating on the things that are bad just drives people away. If you want to draw people toward something, you have to help them to appreciate what's good.
Sometimes it is your fault.. Sometimes you don’t listen well enough, you’re selfish, you’re rude and you aren’t always right. Sometimes you fucked it up and tbh that’s okay. It happens, learn from it, apologize and keep it moving. Just because you fucked up doesn’t mean you’re a bad person. Don’t dwell on it
no but this is so important.. it’s so important to just accept you can fuck up you’re allowed to fuck up. you’re allowed to be wrong and it won’t be shameful, it won’t be the worst thing to happen. you’ll either let it go or learn from it and not let it happen again and that’s good.
Aren't people just tired of dying on this hill?
It's not about you, it's about them and if someone wants their pronouns to be they/them, get over it.
then you pay them all the money and they go "Well your house isn't on fire enough/too much/ has been on fire for too long/not long enough so we're not going to take care of it because it just doesn't meet our arbitrary criteria
i often wonder how many ppl from 2012 tumblr are still active on here
are u also still here, lurking in the shadows????
Me and the mutuals
My brother in law recently became a veterinarian and it has really driven the point home as to how fucking bonkers veterinary medicine is. We don't expect human physicians to really know much outside of their own specialty - a dentist, an otolaryngologist, and a maxillofacial surgeon are three totally different dudes. Meanwhile a veterinarian at a wildlife rehab center is doing orthopedic surgery on a hawk and then doing rounds on baby hedgehogs in the hedgehog NICU and administering antibiotics to a ratsnake. And he also knows how to perform surgical interventions on a cow! What the fuck! Those are all totally, wildly different kinds of animal!!
Shout out to veterinarians, they know Too Much.
I always think about that one post that was like "how come the surviving doctors in zombie apocalypse stories are always veterinarians" and the reply "because veterinarians make 'not getting bitten by their patients' a core skill"
