here’s what they don’t tell you about growing up: one day you’re going to get a set of wooden spoons or a set of new mixing bowls and you’ll be more excited about it and for longer than the plushie you got when you were 5. you’re going to enjoy just sitting on the beach watching the waves and feeling the sun and doing absolutely nothing when you used to drag your parents into doing anything but sitting still. the conversations about the weather and traffic aren’t boring anymore; now you know it’s a way to express care for someone’s wellbeing. you won’t notice any of this happening until one day it hits you that life goes so fast and the little things that make it worth it are remarkably slow

I really like the word “smitten”. because at first glance you just think of sappy lovey-dovey stuff but also you have to remember this is a word that’s born of the word “smite.” a devastating word. a word that, summarized, means stricken. smitten means stricken as well — struck with devastating affection.
