Simu Liu cast as Shang-Chi, in Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings

“Marvel has finally revealed the face of its long-in-the-works Shang-Chi movie: Canadian-Chinese actor Simu Liu has been tapped to bring the martial arts superhero to life.

Liu, known for the sitcom Kim’s Convenience (which is excellent), was apparently just cast for the role this past week, with his screen test last Sunday. That’s a quick turnaround.

The upcoming movie, all about the master of martial arts Shang-Chi, will also feature Tony Leung playing the Mandarin. Like, the real one. No, not the Iron Man 3 one.” via io9

Aziraphale and Crowley saw 6000 years of human history and still loved the earth and humans and all the things they do and thought they were cool and worthy of saving.

And not only saw but experienced. They weren’t removed from history they were in it and experiencing it. Crowley saw what the inquisition did and got seriously black out drunk to cope with it Aziraphale is treated with the same bigotry and intolerance and any other gay man. They saw every war, every persecution, felt every loss and they still love humans.

This, to me, is the most important part of the story. To see all the violence and cruelty and bloodshed, to experience the worst parts of humanity and still manage to love it anyway—that’s a choice.

No one becomes kind by accident. No one stumbles into compassion. You have to take all the awful things that have ever been done to you and choose to view them with gentleness and understanding, and a whole lot of awfulness can be done in 6000 years. Again and again and again Aziraphale and Crowley have chosen to say yes this hurts but I know you’re hurting, yes I’m scared but you must be scared too. They’ve chosen to be kind. They’ve chosen to be good.

And that’s the whole idea behind free will, isn’t it? Learning to choose.
