I eat too many burgers so here's an account of all my burgers in 2014. It's probably really boring.

April 14th

Free State Kitchen - Liverpool

FUCKYEAHSLIDERS!!!!!!

So I'll do these one by one, there was a classic hamburger one, I asked to have blue cheese on it and I'm glad I did cos it gave it a great tang and made it a 9/10 easily.

There was a classic cheeseburger one which was beautifully cooked and had a brilliant homemade ketchup on, it could have used a pickle but you get a jar on the table so I stuck my own one on. 9/10

There was a mini French onion burger, which you might recall I herald as the best burger you can get. The mini version was also great but there was far too much garlic on it. 8/10

I was mostly impressed that even with little slider burgers, FSK managed to make them pink and juicy. What a place.

Turkey burgers with breaded naan tandoori bites on.

Yeah they look disgusting, they were quite nice, I am moving house soon so I'm eating everything in the freezer, don't judge me.

The Font - Liverpool

Spanish beef burger - topped with chorizo and cheese.

I requested this come pink and got looked at by the chef like I had a fridge on my fucking head. He then agreed to do it and failed miserably.The only way this guy could have done me a pink burger is if he'd have injected pink food dye into the middle. Toppings were shit, chips were cold, the redeeming feature was that the sourdough buns are absolutely great and just about bump it up to a 3/10.

Homemade pork and chilli hummus patties with some more chilli hummus on. The hummus gave the pork, which can be a weird patty, a really nice texture and these were just lovely. Not much more you can say about home made food

Meat and Liquor - Lark Lane

FUCK YEAH THREE BURGERS!!!! (Sliders but shut up)

Ok so let's start on the left with the pulled pork patty slider. The patty fell apart in seconds, almost rendering it a pulled pork sandwich, it was lovely though, succulent and without that horrible oversmoked taste that comes with a lot of pulled pork nowadays. However I am not going to count it as a burger.

The middle offering was nothing short of shit. A dry as a bone, thumb sized piece of chicken on a comedy sized serving of red cabbage with a smear of hellmans. Feck off. 2/10.

Then the beef and cheese and bacon slider at the right. Burger was littered with lovely mustard seeds, it was cooked well and the cheese was melted just right. 9/10

Very goata? Or something, I don't know.

The Shipping Forecast - Liverpool

Proper frigged my dates in the arse here didn't I? Ah well. Anyway, this place is usually ok but today it was SHIT. The first burger I got was chorizo and halloumi on beef. Being a maverick I added pastram and sour cream and chive sauce. Everything was great except the patty, which was overcooked and not hot. The toppings were cooked deliciously though. The true disaster here was the chicken burger I have previously sang the praises of. First it came so cold it may as well have been got out the fridge and then the second time it came with corn salsa, which I specifically asked not for. Also it turns out corn salsa is sweetcorn and tomato with chilli powder on. Not for me thanks. Anyway I added mac and cheese and guacamole. The replacement came and the guacamole tasted like nothing, I got aba three pieces of mac and cheese and my chicken was so overcooked I'm fairly sure they got it in the oil last time I left to have it ready for my return. Dire. 1/10 for the whole experience.

Subway near Dale Street in Liverpool

Big Beef Melt

I did the two from this day the wrong way round but who is assed? Subway do a burger of sorts now. It is a burger, there's a patty and bread. Burger. It was erm, ok, it's never gonna win any awards but my perfect subways toppings might (grated cheese, plenty of red onion, olives, jalapenos, ranch and southwest sauce, YEAH). 4/10

Free State Kitchen - Liverpool

A burger of my own creation - beef pattie, beef brisket, apple slaw and swiss cheese.

Having (unsurprisingly) exhausted the menu at Free State Kitchen I got them to whip me this bad boy up. It was great as usual, lovely tender brisket and a well cooked burger. The only bad bit was that apple slaw wasn't really to my taste, not that it wasn't nice, it just wasn't for me. 8/10

Homemade beef burgers stuffed with black pean paste and topped with cheddar. Very tasty, burnt the fucking shit out of my mouth though, fucking BLACK BEAN PASTE GETS HOT.

Double French Onion Burger WITH ADDED PASTRAMI 

GRILLED ONIONS, DIJON, SUCCULENT PINK BEEF, SWISS CHEESE AND ADDED WONDERFUL BEAUTIFUL PASTRAMI. Ok I admit it. I am a Free State Kitchen addict. This was the best burger I'd ever had previously. The addition of pastrami just made it better if that's possible. When I die I want to be buried in a coffin made of double french onion burgers. 10/10

A & J's Cafe - Maryland Street, Liverpool

Turkey burger with brie, bacon and mayonnaise.

This was ok. You know I love A & J's but I don't think turkey burgers are for me. They're unavoidably quite dry. It could have used a bit of cranberry sauce too. Other than that it was nice and good value too. Get to A&J's. 7/10.

I've had one of these before and it was the same deal really, cheap as fuck at £3 with a coffee between 10 and 12, nice muffin, nice pork, well cooked egg. Yep. 8/10.

Nolita Cantina - Bold Street, Liverpool

Surf n Turf burger - 2 beef patties, shrimp, shrimp butter, slaw.

MEH. Everyone always raves about Nolita Cantina and we'd gone when it'd just opened and were unimpressed. Seeing it had updated its menu we took the plunge and went again. There were a lot of problems, mostly the beef. For a start it's underseasoned which meant all I could taste was shrimp. Not only this but I'm not convinced the grill is hot enough, while cooked medium as it should be, the outside lacks the char and heat that it should and results in quite grey, mushy burgers. There's too much of the dry slaw and the bun is not great. Overall it was just not impressive, don't believe the hype. 4/10

I completely forgot to take a piccy myself but here's what they look like. Shame you can't eat with your eyes.

East Village Arts Club - Liverpool

San Gennaro - a chorizo and beef patty with roasted red    pepper, emmental cheese topped with pancetta and maple syrup.

So. Where to start. First of all this was a patty of beef with chorizo on top, not what was advertised. Secondly it was absolutely horrendous. I have no idea what it tasted of but I couldn't get the taste out of my mouth for hours. A whole soggy roasted red pepper on miserable underseasoned beef with maple syrup and tesco basic sweet chilli sauce on. Never again. The only redeeming feature was that at first the burger came out SO BURNT that it was knocked off the bill and I didn't have to pay for it. Avoid at all costs. 1/10.
