āThe new Amren is even crankier than the old one.ā
ELAIN-
i had a vision (w/refs ā¬)
āGhosts are realā I can see how you could believe that
āGhosts arenāt realā itās very fair and rational that you believe that
āGhosts arenāt real anymoreā Iām about to hear a poem or very sad story
āGhosts arenāt real yetā the fuck are you going to do
i have to defend fictional women who aren't good people because if i don't who else will
the two flavours of this feeling are "i think she is flawed and going through it and figuring her shit out and that's a very human quality that i appreciate seeing in a female character" and "i think it's good she killed and ate those people and i think it's really hot that she didn't feel bad about it because confidence is attractive"
girls should have horns
......suddenly struck by the idea for a piece of worldbuilding of "fae don't like iron bc it is the most stable element*"
*as in elements higher you can extract energy via fission and lower you can extract energy via fusion but iron itself there is no excess binding energy to extract at all
YOU. YOU SEE MY VISION.
People: exposure to the fae realms makes you weak and sickly. Because of the fae
The fae: wow wow wow i LOVE uranium!!!! We should put it ALLLL over our land!!! This won't cause problems!
me, now the fandom of one for the Bristol Keats duology: brilliant this is fine
"Beautiful things are fragile..."
there's been a horrible almost accident at the hypervigilance factory
Gideon is an unreliable narrator because she's so often looking in the wrong directions, sometimes lacks context to understand which things are important enough to pay more attention, and because she's a terrible terrible tsundere living in denial.
Harrow is an unreliable narrator because she's schizophrenic AND haunted AND lobotomized herself and also is prone to 99 layers of secrecy and cryptics at all times and also most of her story being filtered through Gideon doesn't help.
John is an unreliable narrator because he omits and obscures so much, is terrified of making himself truly vulnerable, and at least some of the time is also lying to himself. Of course not being a true PoV character so we never actually get in his head is also a big factor.
Nona is an unreliable narrator because she simply cannoooooot be bothered to give a shit about the main universe plot, oh my God, she has more important things to worry about, like her friends and family and all these cool dogs.
We all know these things but I've just realized what this also means is:
The most reliable narrator we've had at least in any of the novels, by merit of her only being the PoV character for one whole chapter and spending basically all of it either judging or pining, is Ianthe Tridentarius.
Today? Another harrowhark. Tomorrow? Take a wild guess
I recently reread the Cohort Intelligence Files, and I feel as a fandom we've not given nearly enough consideration to the possibilities of the year 9995, five years before the beginning of GTN:
17 year old Second Lieutenant Judith and 22 year old Marta are on the Leviathan-class ship Emperorās Dominion and awarded commendations in within-system war games.
The twins turn 16, presumably with some pageantry (and the looming realisation that perhaps they will not be able to continue their ruse indefinitely).
Isaac and Jean, aged 8 and 9, make their cav vows, presumably while they are still attending school at Koniortos Court.
Abigail becomes head of the Fifth House and makes her husband/seneschal her cavalier (an action which is perhaps only allowed to slide because she apparently doesn't plan to stay in post for long).
15 year old Cam and Pal are two years into Pal's extraordinarily young tenure as Master Warden, perhaps beginning the first overhaul of the Spire in half a myriad.
Dulcinea stops making public appearances as Duchess of Rhodes.
Eleven year old Silas begins to learn how to siphon from Colum.
Harrow begins to puppet her parents, the last Cohort chaplains and construct adepts are lost in action, and the Ninth is closed to pilgrims (and in the Harrow Nova AU, Mortus steps down from his post and scarifies Ortus).
And presumably, John Gaius is running the numbers on the approach of Number Seven and his remaining numbers of Lyctors, and considering his options...
This person wrote a manifesto I aināt reading all that but this is literally the type of behavior im talking about the idea hobbies all cost money is so removed from reality if you have the time to pick up your phone and write 7 paragraphs on how im victimizing you with my offhanded post you have the time to watch a movie on YouTube with your very same phone instead come on now. How is you freaking out on the internet helping any of these issues
things that dont cost money: hiking, walking, birdwatching, identifying plants, drawing (you have a pen, reading (library), collecting rocks, dancing, singing.... etc wtc etc
if you cant find a hobby you can afford, thats a you problem. and if youre posting online, you have a device to do that, get some free games, trawl wikipedia, study something. stop picking fights online and do something else.
if you can write an essay about it on your phone you can write fanfic or poetry or something on your phone also and it will be much nicer for everyone involved, including you
You can also make a hobby out of volunteering. One of my favorite things is the one day a month I get to go work with my nonprofit.
Pick up trash in the park or along the road! (Make sculptures with it!) Visit people in the nursing home! Take a free online course! Hell--make a podcast! Host a PowerPoint party! Write letters to old people!
You! Have! Options!
Adding to that, shit that's not a fucking hobby:
1. Stalking people online to see if they've ever said one (1) thing you disagree with to put them on a harassment list.
2. Trolling in folks inboxes because you don't like them.
3. Hatereading blogs.
4. Writing call-out posts and jumping in everybody's DMs about whatever it is.
Do the world a favor and spread some fucking joy for once.
A heist! šš¦
Dedicated to my cat, who is very vocal about my bed time.
