I'm not sure how much I plan on posting here, but I figure it doesn't hurt to have an intro post.
I go by Polamo, though I've gone by other names in the past, and will probably go by other names in the future. I've been on the periphery of the therian community for decades now, with occasional forays into actual interaction. Basically, a professional lurker. I'm an animal person looking to connect more with my avian side, explore birdliness, post some thoughts, etc.

Could I get inspiration for how to express my theriotype, fashion and expression wise, and how to incorporate it more into my daily life? I am an American Kestrel, specifically a male one.

You can try to mimic feather patterns with clothes. Starting with orange/brown and black polka dots
And then the blue on the wings can be recreated with arm warmers/gloves
And on your head as well!
Accessorize with lots of feathers! Just beware of the migratory bird treaty, and that you don't appropriate anything if you're not native.
I definitely feel that raccoon tails have a feathered appearance
If you do makeup, you can use kestrel colors and bird motifs. You can also paint the vertical stripes around your eyes with eyeshadow.
Wear nails that resemble talons
For more permanent options, wing tattoos are a timeless choice, whether on the back or arms
Bonus:
If its not possible to move or take a vacation during migratory season, you could take a long drive, or even a ritual walk in that direction
Take every opportunity to be in high places (swings, rides, etc) if you're able enough
Even moving quickly feels like flying, running, biking, driving
Eat candy insects (or regular insects)

sometimes I feel kind of lonely as a bird therian :( there are so many mammals… where are my birds… calling all corvids eagles hawks falcons shrikes songbirds vultures mockingbirds owls etc CONGREGATE FELLOW FLOCK!!! So many packs where are my flocks…

Hey creatures!!! I wanted to ask ya’ll something. I’m trying to start an Etsy business-but specifically oriented towards alterhumans/nonhumans.
However, I don’t want it to be like most shops I’ve seen-masks and tails and a few other things, but thats it. But I don’t exactly know what all to put in my inventory-I have some ideas, obviously, but I’m a bit stuck.
So, I wanted to ask you guys!!! No matter what or who you are-please respond!! I want to make things for as wide a range of people as possible! Animal, creature, object, character, concept, WHATEVER YOU ARE-this also includes otherpaw and everything-tell me what kinds of products ypu would like to see! (Art, jewelry, affirming things, wearable items, etc etc-literally anything you can think of that relates to your nonhumanity that you would like to see as a product/that you would buy)
I would greatly appreciate some help-I need to know what to sell, and what better place to get opinions than within part of the community itself?

Personally, I like things that are not so much newly produced, but thrifted, recycled, scavenged or curated in some way. I think something like upcylced themed jewelry, specific to one species, or even a specfic person upon commision would be cool. Along the same sort of lines, maybe a box of small themed items (stickers, charms, jewelry, knick knacks, etc) that you source from different places would be very cool and unique.
Repeatedly sings I Dont Wanna Do the Work Today as I bother @pendrawlum and @isharton for colours so I can rough up wing design concepts before work. They both said purple and gold so PURPLE AND GOLD IT BE

hello bird therians of tumblr! I'm kinda questioning some birds at the moment to identify as, because I've realized that some of my winged cat and watcher behaviors are actually too bird-like to be just from those kins. or maybe I just want to be a bird haha.
I'm kinda lost at the moment because there's so many bird species and I don't really know what to look for. there's so many bird behaviors that I just match with several classes (mostly corvids, to be honest...) and species. so I asked myself, what better way to get information than from the source themselves?
so I wanted to ask bird therians:
1. how did you discover your bird species? what bird behaviors do you exhibit?
2. do you have any sources to look for species? maybe a website or a book somewhere I can look at for research?
3. do you experience phantom limbs? (I get wings and talons all the time bc I'm a watcher)
4. how do you narrow down the species? through behaviour, appearance, or something else?
I don't know what else to ask for. if you're a bird or even an avian, feel free to ramble below! I want to hear about your experiences to see if they match up with mine! (I know I'm the one that's gotta figure it out for himself, but I'm so lost at the moment, I don't even know what I'm looking for)
I don't have a whole lot to add to this, since I haven't even pinned down many aspects of my birdliness. But I wanted to say that I think the websites run by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology might be a good resource. This site can help you identify and compare different North American species and there are links to even more bird-related sites if you scroll to the bottom.
