Hi, my name is Cat. I'm 29, permanently exhausted and have been obsessed with Thedas since circa 2015. I'm on AO3 at KenwayWrites

My current obsession is Emmrook and Emmrich Volkarin. Also that mod that gives Viago curls. Also any Nevarra/Antiva lore.

My main Rook is Calista de Riva, an Antivan Crow rogue, who ends up with Emmrich following the events of Veilguard. Hoping to start writing some fanfic centred on her soon. Calista's tag.

Emmrich Volkarin being an extreme morning person and 90% of Rooks being... very much not that, is very funny, actually. Yes yes he's disgustingly cheery before sun-up but have you considered: Emmrich absolutely drooping after 9:30pm. Rook had him out for a modest Antivan dinner and some wine and he's practically nodding off into the remains of his excellent pasta. Babes he's not begging Rook home for the evening for sexy reasons, he's at risk of falling asleep at the sink during his eight step skincare routine.

In the black, shriveled raisin of a heart I call my own, I desperately want Emmrich to just casually waltz into the Necropolis after the gods eat absolute celestial shit, dragging behind him a Rook so hot she looks like someone modded reality with the NSFW patch. (She loves him but the Necropolis is still creepy as shit.)

She’s not just hot. She’s blasphemously hot. I’m talking “shouldn’t be legally allowed within 50 feet of a priest or a mirror” hot. Everyone assumes this tenure-worn, single-for-a-long-while sweet cupcake of a professor straight-up purchased her off the Interdimensional Black Market for Hot People. Mail order bride’d her ass.

Spoiler: she told him he should put his dick in her mouth approximately twelve minutes after they met.

She looks like wrath. Like sin. Like she flosses with angel intestines and moisturizes with gold dust.

Faculty are horrified. Students are eating this up. Someone corners him like “Professor. Sir. Be honest. Did you… buy her?”

Emmrich blinks, genuinely confused. “Oh no! She found me! Isn’t that sweet?” ☺️

Now she’s decked out in enough gold to trigger a small-scale economic collapse, lounging on his desk like an art deco demoness, while he grades midterms with a cup of tea and a gentle hum.

And when someone finally, finally works up the courage to whisper, “She seems a little, uh… spoiled?”

Emmrich just beams like a golden retriever and goes,

“Yes! Isn’t she just precious? 😊😊”

i was kind of sad viago didn’t have his cane from tevinter nights in veilguard. in tevinter nights he’s not particularly written as a combat specialist compared to other crows: he describes someone else as an “excellent swordsman, where viago preferred poison” when he’s specifically listing all the things they are that he bitterly compares himself against, and in the final confrontation teia defends him and does all the combat while he (admittedly badly injured at the time) sits down and delivers a whodunnit monologue. because that is the culmination of his skillset, not an action scene. he’s a strategist and poisoner whose mind is his weapon, and whether or not he can actually be the one to hold the knife is fairly irrelevant to his character as a whole or to how dangerous he is as a crow

while i don’t think it was the writer’s intention or in any way canon, it was iirc pretty easy to imagine this character as disabled and actually reliant on the cane he carries everywhere without it affecting anything the short story requires him to do, which is fun, and that was what i personally had in mind after reading it. i thought it would make particular sense for some crows to be disabled with what we hear of their gruelling training—i know that shit does not actually turn out healthy adults, people end up needing canes all the time even when they didn’t grow up scaling walls and doing weaponised backflips in-between torture rack sessions—and it’s an interesting angle for one to be a “success story” who became a talon. in that context, viago making his cane the most expensive and eye-catching thing on his person, as well as a tool for storing his infamous poisons, is an even more interesting character choice

anyway i’m guessing they removed the cane purely because it does a lot to make caterina’s more distinctive/iconic which is fair. but i think i’d experiment w leaning into this if i was writing fanfic? the cane was rlly cool okay it had two adder heads in what sounded like a callback to those great dao mage staffs. i wanted to see it. you should all put it into your viago art if you care about me

you are the herald of andraste. and you are so, so scared. these people do not trust you, do not like you, would feed you to the fade if they could. they do not care if you follow another religion, you are their herald. you can never return home because heroes do not have homes. they say home is the people you choose, but you didn't choose these people, did you? every step you take aches. thousands reach out to touch you, for safety. for comfort. you are a black hole close to destruction, and you cannot do this. you are the herald of andraste and you have not been yourself for so long now.

My Crow Rook headcanon is that sometime during the story Rook goes home for family dinner and is like ‘… so I’m seeing someone … he’s a Dalish grey warden’ and Viago spits out a five hundred euro mouthful of wine (which Rook has poisoned just to see if he notices) and experiences one million catastrophic war flashbacks to the last time an Antivan Crow was ‘seeing’ a Dalish grey warden and gets up to find a quill to put a contract on Davrin’s life and Teia yanks him back by his coat and is like ‘ooh is that the handsome one’ and Rook is nodding enthusiastically while Viago stares into his dinner plate like it’s the abyss

If I may provide some propaganda for my personal favourite idea...

"Reva" was going to be Solas's modern day right hand woman, a hardened "bad cop" character. Based on what's in the art book, it appears her concept was a former enslaved ancient elf who freed herself, and literally burned the vallaslin off her face. She wears a full facial mask to cover her scars. Just know I would've been her #1 defender had she made it into existence and would have been rooting for a redemption arc for her more than Solas lol

They really missed a trick having Lucanis in all his gear from the moment you meet him, and not just from an immersion standpoint (seriously how come he already has it all when he’s meant to be in a cell?)

Because IMAGINE, you come upon him, feral, matted hair and beard, basically wearing scraps of fabric, underfed and weak but still killing venatori with his bare hands

You talk to him, escape the Ossuary and go back to the Lighthouse. And then he gets a CLASSIC 90s/00s MAKEOVER REVEAL
