To celebrate the conclusion of the His Dark Materials TV series. Mixing the Rossetti poem from the book chapter in which Lyra and Will realize they are in love with the painterly style of William Blake.

The original HDM book series deeply influenced how I think about art, wisdom, and love. And though I have my subjective opinions on how I wanted it to be adapted, the talented actors and returning to the books has been very moving.

As fans will know, Philip Pullman was influenced by William Blake’s Songs of Innocence and Experience when writing HDM, so when I saw this gorgeous piece in the style of one of Blake’s illuminations (and with a Christina Rossetti poem no less!) Just rewatched HDM Season 3

Well, as can be expected, I bawled my eyes out again.

And I just made a decision, if Will and Lyra are not reunited in Book of Dust 3, I'll just treat the whole series as fanfiction instead of canon.

I totally respect Philip Pullman's creation and his writing. I'm not one of those who hate him for the ending. It's his world, he can do whatever he sees fit. And it's not essentially a BAD ending. It just leaves people heartbroken. I don't even think so many of us would be influenced so deeply if not for the ending.

I sort of made peace with the ending years ago. Sometimes I'm in denial, telling myself that someday in the future, the world will need to be saved again and Lyra and Will will have to reunite and save it again; Sometimes I'd be like, I'm okay with them spending the rest of their lives apart as long as I don't read about those lives!

And that's part of the reason I didn't enjoy The Secret Commonwealth all that much. I can stomach the fact that in theory, they'd live their lives apart, but making me read about that is just CRUEL. Okay?????

I'm still holding out hope for the third book. I'm not expecting it, though. They likely won't. But yeah, I'll just disregard the whole series as canon if they aren't.

for me it’s that he’s clearly trying to push a relationship between lyra and the man 11 years older than her who started fancying her when she was 15?? like as much as it would kill me to not have her and will reunite (and it really would!), i would ultimately accept it on some level. i’d accept her ending up with a nice gypitan boy like dick if i must. but pleaseee god, if lyra ends up with creepy boring malcolm i will be heartbroken.

k so i come on tumblr once in a blue moon these days so like idk if this is some kind of joke or error but what the fuck is this new shade of blue  what is up with the saturation and contrast on this shit  it’s literally reflective, i can see myself in my laptop screen in the same way i can when it’s black  what is up with this trash website, stg whenever i come back i’ve been followed by 20 new porn bots and had multiple totally fine posts removed and they’ve made some stupid new change like i can’t wait for this site to just go under it needs to die already

i’ve just finished reading hdm for the first time and have since found out about the show they’re making of it and honestly i’ll be so mad if will is white. i picture him so clearly now that if he isn’t black he’s gonna feel like a whole different character i stg.
