I have been writing fan fiction since I was a teenager. I started with cringey LOTR FanFiction with Legolas being in love with me. As so many of us did 😂

And then I got into Marvel and Kari became a voice in my head that I couldn’t stop. And I HAD to write her story.

Then Syn, when The Mandalorian renewed my passion for Star Wars.

Then other characters starting popping into my head. One of them being a bratty, smart mouthed on the outside, but dying on the inside, woman called Brielle. What started as a funny,spicy thought in my tack room grew into a 173k monster.

In a way she felt like me for the last few years. Polished on the outside but drowning on the inside and choking on other peoples expectations of her.

And so, The Stablehand was born. And now it’s a REAL THING in my hands. It’s a little unbelievable that after so many years of writing I finally have a physical copy of my own writing in my hands!

It’s available on Kindle now as an Ebook. And the paperback comes out on the 20th of April.

Don’t worry everyone. Kari’s story is also still coming!

Any updates on Kari's trilogy?

Hello!!!

So you the rough draft of the first and second book is done and I’ve had friends look it over with great feedback. But still a lot of editing to happen

And at the moment I’m torn between querying this with publishers or self publishing it myself, as I’ve started doing with some of more contemporary romance stuff (I have 2 out now! I’m under E. McIntosh on Kindle)

Trad means it probably wouldn’t be out until the end of next year. But self publishing nearly doesn’t do it justice? So I’m a little stuck on how I’m doing it.

I was also aiming for publishing book 1 of my dark romance later this year. But it’s all a little undecided. I have done some super soft queries with some agents but there’s nothing solid yet. I think depending on how I go with the next few romance books I’m doing with self publishing will ultimately decide how I go with Kari’s trilogy.

Three moods when I see my favorite artists/writers

writing advice i live by (as someone who writes as a hobby):

your first draft is allowed to be awful. let it be awful, you can always improve it later.

if you’re writing as a hobby, it should be enjoyable and not feel like a chore.

if you’re stuck on a scene and can’t get the words out, skip it. write a note for yourself to come back to it later and move on to the next scene. sometimes you just need to look away from the scene and come back to it with a fresh pair of eyes for the words to flow again.

that also applies to finding the right words and metaphors.

consuming media is one of the best cures for writer’s block.

another thing that helps writer’s block is asking yourself: “what is the most fun/best/most devastating thing that could happen next?”

do not rush your writing. quality work takes time, so don’t ever beat yourself up for being a “slow writer”. it’s always worth taking your time building the right plot and finding the right words to make something you’re proud of.

you’re allowed to take a break from your writing. writing is hard work and burn out happens. take a break if you need, and come back to it when you’re ready. writing is not a race.

writing a story/plot you love > molding your plot to trendy tropes you don’t enjoy.

when you’re writing as a hobby, your work doesn’t need to be perfect. it just needs to make you happy. that’s it.

having more words doesn’t mean higher quality work. don’t feel bad for having a low word count.

if you like your own story, chances are others will too.

fanfic writers have the power to write literally whatever they want, since they’re writing for themselves first and foremost

you as a potential reader have the power to filter out tags and avoid what you don’t like, since you’re reading for yourself first and foremost

you’d think this is a common sense, but somehow it’s still a hard-to-swallow pill for people who want to censor and enforce rules on art — when art has always been, and will always be, about the freedom to express and create anything the artists want
