Tomioka Giyuu
giyuu rant (I don't get sick of talking about him)
the contrast between giyuu in the normal and academy au plagues me because of how bittersweet it is. on the surface, he appears to be the same person. he rarely smiles, he gets irritated easily, and he sits alone. but the difference between them is that giyuu in the canon universe is a product of his of his depression, trauma, and guilt while his counterpart is just him being himself. giyuu isolated himself in the normal au out of his fear of abandonment. giyuu in the academy au eats alone because "you can't talk to people while eating" and he genuinely enjoys his own company. giyuu carried immense guilt after his sister's death believing that he robbed her of her life before her wedding due to her sacrificing herself. in the academy au, tsutako never died and giyuu managed to see her get married and be happy, something he never got to do in the canon au. giyuu suppressed all his feelings as a demon slayer because he wanted to free himself from his misery and regret but as a teacher, every single emotion he displays is genuine from his annoyance when students break rules to his delight when he eats his favorite dishes. most of the LN chapters that include giyuu occur in the academy au and I believe that it's a brilliant decision because it shows us what giyuu COULD have been if he grew up in a healthy environment and didn't lose everyone he loved. we could have had a man who eats on the stairs. we could have had a man who cries to embarrassing song lyrics. we could have had a man who allows himself to care for others. the academy au proves to us that he doesn't need friends to be happy, he just had to love himself. giyuu clearly isn't perfect in the academy au. he holds himself and others to high standards and is an absolute dumbass but that's what makes him so human, something that his counterpart didn't have the privilege to be.
Happy Birthday Giyuu! 🌊💙✨
Dreading the thought of how many people from Gen Z and Gen Alpha are going to at least feel softer towards Trump for restoring TikTok, if not outright deciding that he and the GOP might not be that bad.
Y'all.
The GOP is terrible. They hate women, they hate POC, they hate queer people, they want to eject millions of people from this country, and even if you don't care about how horribly devastating it'll be for them to have to go back to countries where they will literally be murdered, and how horribly that will affect their families who are allowed to stay, keep in mind that they pick all our fruits and vegetables, which will now wither on the vine. Republicans aren't going to do a thing about climate change and will in fact implement policies that will speed it up, which means more devastating hurricanes, more wildfires that wipe out entire cities, more risk of frozen diseases coming back because of the melting icecaps, entire cities that are soon to be drowned, also because of the melting icecaps, and places near the equator becoming uninhabitable. I actually live in a city that, due to climate change, will become uninhabitable in a hundred years.
The point is, yeah sure, Trump might bring your favorite app back. But that doesn't mean he isn't terrible. Please don't forget that.

If you saw someone at their absolute worst, knew of their deepest regrets and darkest thoughts and most harmful impulses, are they still deserving of love and happiness? Could you forgive them? These are not the same question
Every person you know has multiple sides of themself, including faces you will never see, and this does not make any of these selves inauthentic
Identity is a struggle between the person you know yourself to be and the person others see you as; the line between these is not always clear

There are some things in this world more important than knowing the absolute truth, and furthermore all truth is subjective and your interpretation of it is subject to change

Well it only took me several years and a pandemic but I finally changed my icon!
Loki and his severe self esteem issues
Something I don't think we as a fandom discuss enough is the moment where Loki casually says "my life was a waste of time" to Mobius in s2ep6, I kinda understand that bc the finale was so traumatazing to some people that they only watched it once and tried their best to not think about it for too long
But this moment stuck with me because he says it with such calmness, there's no bite in his words, no sarcasm, no irony, he truly believes that, he thinks his whole life was a waste of time and this is so incredibly heartbreaking, at that point he already spent centuries trying to fix the loom only to learn it was a failsafe, centuries of his life wasted on a mission that lead to nothing, he probably think his life on the sacred timeline was a waste of time too, I'm so sure he'd do everything different if he could go back there, I'm sure he looks at all the things he did with so much shame and regret, a life wasted with jealousy and bitterness and acting out to get attention of others while being desperate for his father's approval and wanting to be Thor's equal
Even though he only acted that way because of his own trauma too, abandoned as a baby, adopted by a man who had a political agenda in mind when he took him and who made Loki feel unfit and inferior his whole life, raised in a society that looked down at all the things that made him him (magic, tricks, preference for diplomacy instead of fist fighting etc), Loki grew up in a hostile enviroment that only made him insecure and alone, he has severe self esteem issues and all he wanted his whole life was to be accepted and loved by his people and most of all by his father, he chased that approval in the wrong ways and now that he's mature and wiser he understands that but it's still so sad to see him talking about himself like that
He dedicated centuries of his life to doing the right thing, to saving the multiverse and making sure everyone would be safe, he made friends, he became kind and selfless and somehow he still thinks his existence was a mistake, his insecurities are so deep and internalized that I'm afraid he'll never truly be free of them, I wish someone hugged him very tight and told him how amazing and important he is, that his mistakes in the past don't define who he is now and that they're proud of how far he came in his journey
Loki's existence was the greatest gift the multiverse could've asked for, without him everyone would still be part of hwr's schemes and the tva would still be taking away people's free will, I hope his mind changed after the making of Yggdrasil and that he starts looking at himself with more compassion and love bc he deserves it more than anyone at this point
You were so real at saying the finale was traumatising bc genuinely I felt like I was grieving for someone I personally knew for 2 weeks after it aired lmao. (Still haven’t fully rewatched S2, only to grab screen recordings for edits lol).
But moving on—
You’re so right.
Also his self esteem or, at least to some degree, his confidence issues are heavily evident in Thor 1. He doubts himself multiple times, when Thor cuts him off in front of Heimdall, Sif & the Warriors three when he’s trying to be diplomatic regarding them going to Jotunheim, when he tries to reason with Odin as he is banishing Thor, he nervously wrings his hands quite a bit or fiddles with his palm when he’s uncertain (also evident in the series)…
Loki is confident, but not in the same way as the others in his life. He is more arrogant than he is confident. But then I suppose to some degree you need confidence to have arrogance. Even in Avengers after speaking to The Other, Loki’s confidence wanes for a moment, his self-doubt creeps back in. And I think Loki always knew he would fail his attack on Midgard.
Loki is such a contradiction and I love that about him. He’s ambitious, intelligent, cunning, arrogant, self-righteous even, but somehow he is also completely the opposite of most of those traits (minus the intelligence & cunning) at the same time.
Yes!!! I would say Loki wanted to be confident but his insecurities never allowed him to achieve that in the tl, he said it himself in s1ep1: "It's a cruel, elaborate trick conjured by the weak to inspire fear" and Mobius adds: "A desperate play for control", Loki desperately wanted to be the things he pretended he was but deep down he thought of himself as weak, inferior and unfit, he wanted to be able to take control of situations and resolve problems bc that's what Thor always did, he wanted to be proud of his abilities bc Thor was proud of himself, he wanted to be confident bc Thor was confident but he never truly accepted himself the way Thor did
I think Loki healed a lot in the show bc he started to appreciate his abilities more, I remember some advertisement for s2 that said "with a newfound appreciation for his powers and abilities Loki tries to..." or something like that and that's why he's able to become such a natural leader in s2ep6, sadly when he realized that the loom was a failsafe he thought all his efforts were in vain and his insecurities crawlled back for a moment and he said that
In the end I think Loki truly accepted himself and realized that he could in fact save them all, at the cost of his own happiness and autonomy? Yes but he did it nontheless bc that's what heroes do 🥲
Sadly we didn't get to see movie Loki going through the same path of acceptance, I really wanted him to heal and get better, he deserved it too
