Saving this for reference. I always have a tough time when it comes to coloring out fire. I suck at it >w<;
Let me talk to you about books.
Specifically, one book. This book.
This book should be a best seller. This book should be required reading for graduating from high school. Before you get that diploma, you read this book.
This book deals with debunking “Neurosexism,” which is a very fancy term for all of that evolutionary psychology bullshit that people spill about those “brain differences” between boys and girls.
This book debunks such myths as:
Boys are better at math than girls
Women make crappy lawyers/business CEOs/etc, as their brains are not cut out for aggression.
Men make crappy counselors/primary school teachers/primary parents/etc, as their brains are not cut out for empathy.
MEN ARE BUILT FOR GOING OUT AND HUNTING WHILE WOMEN ARE BUILT FOR STAYING HOME AND BABYMAKING IT’S NOT SEXISM IT’S JUST BIOLOGY
And many other such myths.
Furthermore, this book covers topics such as:
Neurosexism and gender perceptions in multiple races (as this is not a singularly white experience, just as the western world isn’t a singularly white experience)
Sex discrimination in the workplace, and how women are (or, more often, are not) allowed to behave
How science is used (badly) to support many of these claims
Experiences of trans people, both through interviews and empirical studies.
AND FINALLY - It is all brilliantly researched, cited, compiled - and it’s easy to read! Cordelia Fine actually manages to be funny while writing this, which I think is important, because it makes all of this information infinitely accessible.
Delusions of Gender has reinforced what Oberlin taught me: The gender binary is stupid and arbitrary, and dangerous. And it is a self-perpetuating bias that needs to be addressed to be overcome.
So adding this to my to-read list.
And it’s currently available on Kindle for $3.34.
alphaalberto we need to read this.
ive reblogged this before but i have this book and it’s definitely a good read. i didn’t actually get very far because it reads like a research paper— a lot of lists of experiments and their results, and explanations of what those results mean in practice, but without many conclusions as to alternatives to the norm— but it’s definitely a very informative read that debunks the entire concept of male-vs-female brains.
These are from a wonderful book called The Art Of Comforting. Check it out and learn how to be better at supporting people going through difficult things.
Looks like a great resource. I know a couple of the most irritating things I hear a lot when talking about my struggles with depression are “You should keep busy!” or “You need to get out/exercise more!”
Keeping busy was what got overwhelming for me. Having work and scheduled things going on all the time was causing me a LOT of stress and anxiety. I would feel like I was detaching from myself, and would end up in a bad way. Pushing myself back into being busy too soon would be detrimental to my recovery.
Getting exercise and going out of the house is sound advice for improving well-being; my doctors recommend it. That being the case, I don’t need to hear it from fucking everybody. It’s always obvious when non-doctors don’t understand how difficult that can be, and it sounds more like nagging from them. As the book suggests, making actual plans is infinitely more helpful. Make sure to carry them out, though, because it’s painful to get forgotten or stood up in the best of times, but damn brutal when you’re depressed.
Write Real People click and drag game
ONE RULE: DON’T CLICK AND DRAG UNTIL YOU FIND SOMETHING YOU LIKE!
if you want me to add anything just write me. i’ll add that and update the post!
I love all the click and drag games on Tumblr and after I read an article about diversity in YA books, I wanted to make a click and drag “game” myself. (i think this was the article, but i’m not sure, sorry)
Sometimes I wonder how big my dick would be if I were a guy
so, here’s something. i found a calculator online to help you figure that out
You'd save me from drowning just so you could tell me you couldn't afford the water

remember: if you’re attending a school that gives you a .edu email address, you can upgrade your amazon.com account to prime for free by going on and choosing the college/student membership. that means you get the prime 2-day shipping and even some textbook discounts (not to mention AFAIK you enjoy the amazon instant access for free for the duration of your edu email being active)
well at least someone is looking out for students
my favorite tidbit about rome is that in the mid-1800s one of the popes didnt like the statues in rome having dicks so he ordered them knocked off. fast forward to the last decade or so and art historians in conjunction with the vatican are trying to erm. restore. the statues. but the dicks were just. kept in a box. so art historians are going around rome, with a box of dicks, trying to match them up to their owner.
dick in a box
A peek at what I was messing with last night. He’s starting to look more yote but still not yote enough.
If I can’t make things look more dried out (take the moss away, etc.), I might want to see about changing some of the bark to a stone texture since it would be a desert based myth I’m meddling with. I need a name for him and I might just get lazy and name the river after him because I seriously suck at naming things.
