It's true I don't tolerate fools but then they don't tolerate me, so I am spiky. Maybe that's why I'm quite good at playing spiky elderly ladies.

Remember when "NFT" meant "Not For Trade"? Good times at that...
I miss Stacy’s Musical Village and its forums. It was a good source of information on various musical shows and a great hub to meet people (I love it a lot better than Broadway World and Musicals dot net forums). Don’t get me wrong, the theatre/musical theatre fanbase on here, Twitter, and YouTube are cool and it's amazing to see how much things have grown over the years since Stacy decided to close down the site but still. You just had to be there...
“Maria Tallchief took what had been a European art form and made it America’s own — how fitting that a Native American woman would do that." -President Bill Clinton, presenting the National Medal of Arts to Maria in 1999.
January 24th, 2015 : Today would have been Elizabeth Marie (known as Maria) Tallchief’s 90th birthday. Born on the Osage Indian Reservation in Fairfax, Oklahoma, she went on to dance most famously with the New York City Ballet and is considered America’s first prima ballerina. Maria was also one of the first American ballet dancers to draw international acclaim. Later in her career, she founded the Chicago City Ballet with her sister Marjorie, also an accomplished ballerina. Her Osage name is Wa-Xthe-Thomba, meaning "Woman of Two Worlds”, and for the role credited with making her a star she is also known as Oklahoma’s Firebird.
Above, Maria dances selections from Swan Lake, Flower Festival, Les Sylphides, and The Firebird. Check out the pique arabesque in the lower left, or the expressiveness of her port de bras in the lower right. Such a beautiful and notable dancer, and such a tragedy to lose her–fortunately, she had a long, rich life.
