I’m trying to write Shiro and Adam headcanons, but Keith kept cropping up so here are some Shiro, Adam, and tag along Keith headcanons.
Watching Keith and Adam interact was ALWAYS the highlight of Shiro’s day because he’s a menace of an older brother and thinks that their awkward and somewhat uncomfortable interactions are HILARIOUS.
Like yeah of course he wants the two most important people in his life to get along or whatever, yada yada, but Keith and Adam have no idea how to act around each other and it’s amazing to watch.
They’re two of the most confident people Shiro knows, but put them in a room together and it’s fumbles for days.
Adam desperately wants Keith to like him and overcompensates as a result. He has all of Keith’s hobbies and interests memorized, even the ones that Keith only mentioned once or twice, and he’ll ask Keith about them more or less every time they talk.
Which sounds good in theory, except for the fact that their early conversations were incredibly one-sided as Adam was so focused on keeping Keith engaged that he forgot to actually talk to him, while Keith immediately assumed Adam was grilling/judging him and panicked and became slightly defensive as a result.
They get there eventually but like. Adam is asking Keith about a rock collection he doesn’t actually have, Keith has no idea why Adam seems so insistent on the fact that he has a (nonexistent) rock collection, and Shiro is laughing into his cereal and being absolutely no help at all.
Shiro and Adam were already dating by the time Shiro adopted Keith (or whatever), but he didn’t tell Keith until several months later once he and Keith had properly bonded and things had settled down.
Shiro: So, uh… Keith. Adam and I (he takes Adam’s hand in his) are together. We’re boyfriends.
Keith, who is concentrating more on his video game than this conversation: Well, yeah. Obviously.
Shiro: Wait. (Adam starts laughing) You knew? Since when?
Keith: Shiro, the first time I met Adam he called you “Takashi.” No one calls you Takashi. I don’t even call you Takashi. Also, (Keith makes a face) you were looking at his butt when he walked away. (Adam starts full-on cackling)
Shiro taught Keith how to fly, but it was Adam who taught Keith how to drive. Shiro tried, of course, but they had to stop after he nearly broke the roof handle off the first time Keith went around a corner.
The Holts absolutely LOVED Shiro and constantly invited him over for dinner. Every now and then, Shiro was able to bully Adam or Keith into coming with him, and on one memorable occasion he managed to bring them BOTH.
Katie, who is eleven and acts like it: Hey, Shiro?
Katie: (wrinkles her nose) Aren’t you and Adam a little young to have kids?
Shiro: (nearly fumbles a glass of water) Wh
Keith, who is fourteen and also acts like it: (wrinkles his nose) What are you talking about? I don’t even look like Adam.
Adam, deadpan: That’s because you take after Shiro.
Adam has extremely sensitive eyes but he’s still insists on wearing contacts, even though inevitably he has to take them out. Shiro has taken to carrying around an extra pair of Adam’s glasses for when this happens.
Fun fact: Adam has tried over 45 brands of contacts. Shiro had no idea there were even that many contact manufacturers. Keith is convinced that Adam’s optimist is just making things up at this point.
Incidentally, this is how Keith ends up accidentally proposing to Adam FOR Shiro.
Adam and Shiro are on the couch, rewatching Arrival for the hundredth time, when Adam starts rubbing at his eyelids and blinking in a way that’s become equal parts endearing and exasperating to Shiro. Still, he offers the perfunctory “You alright?” when Adam reaches over and pauses the movie.
Adam, bless his heart, tends to get bitchy at the slightest inconvenience, so Shiro takes no offense when his boyfriend grumbles and hauls himself towards the bathroom instead of replying.
Keith, who’s been standing in their kitchen for the past twenty minutes eating their hard earned food and is also used to this routine, immediately offers to grab the glasses Shiro has tucked away in his jacket pocket.
Shiro, who incidentally chickened out of proposing earlier that night, only remembers that oh yeah, he put the ring after his failed proposal in his front pocket at the exact same thing Keith casually yells, from the next room over, “Why the hell do you have a ring?”
From the bathroom, the sound of running water immediately stops. Shiro’s laptop pings him a reminder, asking him if he’d like to continue the movie? Keith saunters into the room, a pair of glasses held loosely in his left hand while his right tosses the ring in question up and down. He grins at Shiro, ready to tease him about fashion statements, only to falter at the look on Shiro’s face.
In the dead silence of the room, Shiro manages to croak out, “Language, Keith.”
