"Blood Oath" is such an important song to me. Especially when I listened to the demo & then the rehearsal snippet posted on Starkid's Instagram.

In the snippet of the chorus we hear in the demo, Sammy and Kevin sing "No matter what, I'm YOUR best friend." They are declaring themselves as the other's best friend, something that would've been a given for them when they were younger. And then Kevin bankrupts their business and it and their relationship blows up.

But Lauren and Joey in the reel sing, "No matter what, you're MY best friend."

After everything that's happened between them, Kevin and Sammy are going to have their fair share of sweet, sour, salty and an all array of flavored moments between them during the show. Kevin probably isn't certain where they stand, or he knows and he wants to try and amend it. And that line, "you're MY best friend" is, hopefully, what they'll sing when the duo makes up.

"I'm your best friend" is the given, and "you're my best friend," is the reassurance, the acknowledgement of the relationship after everything that's happened and the steps taken toward improvement.

I am still, in fact, on my sketchy hyperfixation bullshit. And whilst i was endulging my hyperfixation (scowering every social media platform for crumbs of information about the music, narrative and characters of Tomb Quest so my neurodivergent brain might be sated), I came upon this gem

I scrolled through the tumblr tags to see if I could find any other posts about it and I have NOT. Which is CRIMINAL??? BECAUSE IT'S PEAK?? We are given a Kim & Curt duet where the song's subject is two characters (Melanie and Luke) dancing around the blurred line that is flirting in character and flirting as themselves and even without the choreo, lighting, or costumes the music alone gives off that sort of will-they won't-they in and out, back and forth vibe. Because "it's just roleplay"! But what if it isn't? From this snippet alone, I am confident this is going to be my favorite song like ITS GENIUS?? A sketchy messy not-very-clean thing that I had to doodle as a result of discovering this snippet of a song.

Because it is just roleplay at the end of the day! Or at least, Melanie might see it as such. Given her want to be an actress, I imagine she can recognize the distinction between their characters and themselves, but Ol' lukey pookie might not. So they both end up thinking, in some variation, "We're just having fun, doing some good ol' RP. But what if it's not just RP to them? Is it just RP to me?"
