someone asked me about ways to protect urself/prevent getting doxxed if you do leftist organizing/workplace organizing/are involved in any party or org/etc especially if youve been on social media for a while and already have photos and info up so im going to make a better more organized post about precautions to take or stuff i do at least
go thru all your privacy settings on facebook
make it so people who arent friends with you cant see your posts or photos besides profile pictures
set it so your facebook wont show up in search engines except within facebook (so if you google your name ur profile and pictures wont show up in search results)
set it so if you arent logged into facebook your profile wont show up even with a link
change your last name on facebook
reverse image search your profile picture on facebook and make sure nothing from other accounts shows up (or dont have a picture of u as ur profile)
honestly just dont post that much political stuff on facebook unless youre very intentional about who youre friends with. i dont post much on facebook anyways but like, keep the guillotine jokes and shit off fb if you do. if you do get doxxed by nazis its not gonna help if some conservative on fb that you went to highschool with can screenshot your posts about killing cops
unlink your social media from other social media so if someone friends you on fb or something your instagram/twitter/whatever wont show up
also dont have links to other accounts in your bio. dont make it easy for people to find you on multiple sites- use different usernames on everything you use
also dont have your full name in your usernames or display names anywhere
lock your twitter and instagram etc any account that can be locked
you can also change tumblr privacy settings so your blog wont show up in any search engines and so it can only be viewed by people who are logged in
wear a mask or at least bring one to all protests or actions if possible ESPECIALLY if its antifascism related
dont talk to people with cameras
i dont do this bc ive had this blog for years and even if i deleted my selfie tag thered still be pictures of me around but u can clear out selfies on sites or not tag them so theyre not easily accessible
i think thats about it this isnt the best but if, like me, youve already been on social media for much longer than youve been involved in stuff that might get u doxxed and you already have ur pictures and information up i guess its useful. also yeah just double check privacy settings on anything bc ive found a lot of my shit has had poor privacy settings on for a while and i never noticed because i made the account in 7th grade
