I occasionally get asked questions like 'how do you be a better writer?' and the answer is, in truth, hard work and reading a lot both in and outside the genres you're writing in; there's no cure for it except practice, which is not glamorous or magical to beginners

And then there's the 'what is your writing process?' question to which any answer I will give is equally unhelpful, mostly because it includes unconventional tricks such as 'write a bunch of stuff on note cards in tiny, illegible handwriting and lose it for weeks at the bottom of your bag' or 'wake up in the middle of the night and hit yourself in your face with the phone trying to get a line down and forget it anyway' or 'listen to Orinoco Flow on repeat for hours as motivation to finish editing'

I think none of this will probably work for you but maybe it will, who knows

I work with kids and sometimes we have to do safety lessons with them about like, not telling strangers on the internet your home address or something. And sometimes the kids wont understand why, so you have to impart upon them that, well, some adults want to hurt children. And thats kind of difficult to do, because you have to beat around the bush, both because you dont want to scare them (while still making them understand how serious it is) and because you might lose your job if you explain it too straight forward.

Luckily, for some reason, the villain of one of the most popular franchises with children for the last 10 years happens to be a serial child murderer. So when a kid asks why they shouldnt trust strangers, instead of hand wringing and humhawing my answer out, I can just say "we dont always know when a strange adult has good intentions with children, or when they are William Afton."

one time i was making potato soup and i needed broth for it but i was out of broth. but in my dog food cabinet there was a carton of chicken broth that i had bought for my dog. now the box did say HUMAN GRADE and the ingredients were just bog standard chicken broth. it did say something about joint health for dogs on there. but the ingredients were normal. i even compared the ingredients list to some normal person broth and they were the same. so i did put dog broth in that soup and it did taste completely normal. but i did use the dog broth.
