Idea dump service

Put your brains where your mouth is. People say they have bright ideas right? Have a service which lets people dump ideas and have others rate and vote based on clarity vision etc etc

Developers can then connect with the people who made the ideas if the vision is good enough and try and make startups.

Requires a lot of trust but I can't be the only one who has ideas but no time to work on them.

Idea could really be to connect weekend developers together.

Motivation. The biggest reason people don't progress from idea to execution is because it's just them. It's like how most people don't run unless they have a running partner at the beginning.

Pay to get in?

Pay to see subscriber only content. Users can choose to make their idea dumps public or subscriber only.

Have a way to buy ideas?

Start site up in closed beta entirely where only the people who submit the best idea dumps will be given access. And then allow the weekend developers who have the most active portfolios to join.

Later on keep that practice else everyone will be taking everyone else's ideas.

Ok so a quick search for custom monopoly cards gave me a bunch of links that look like they were seo generated and they are all the same anyway. Ugly monolithic crap.

I'm fairly sure someone can build an online business out of this if they tried. Not just monopoly but how about even other games like cluedeo. Any board game that could do with extensions and extra cards that are a bit on the zany side might actually find a home. Imagine zombie land meets any investigating game. Imagine geek based trivia cards.

And of course. Your bank scam succeeded. Collect 5000 on your way out ;)

Donation/relief work directory

Problem - when a disaster occurs funds and relief work begins. Many people want to get involved but there is no standard way of getting to know where or how to do so.

Solution. Global directory of relief and charity and like events happening. Event are organised based on the situation they are addressing such as a the katarina hurricane, and can be further categorized based on where the donation/relief work is taking place. Solution is in two sections. Event creation And Event discovery

Event creation Simple process. Connect with fb or Twitter or other network. Minimum steps, maximum two next pages for the setting up and ideally just 1 initial page to start off. Further expansion of information can then take place

Event discovery. Users can discover events in two ways 1) Target discovery. User will go into system and search through their specifications such as disaster being addressed, location of relief work etc 2) delivered discovery When going into site the user should see data specific to them, based on their location especially about relief or charity activity taking place that they can get involved in.

Problem 2 Donation of items, what's needed and who should get them During sl tsunami there was a problem of many organizations visiting the same location and donating many times over to the same village. This left some villages rich while others completely abandoned. During recent flood relief work I called up to find out what items were needed. Turned out that all the items I had planned on buying were there in excess while some items such as milk for babies was completely ignored. People simply didn't know

Solution Where to deliver Events should post their targeted locations which can then be viewed by anyone as a whole. Like pin points on a map where each point represents a donation point and who will be donating. Also provide measures for communications between charity groups such as a mini forum Also try and get access to ngo information which can currently be obtained through calls. Set up a better mechanism by getting them involved as first users of the site?.

What items All charity groups publish a list of what is needed. Give even administration a way to publish real time data on what has been gotten so far. Since all items obtained are counted and valued anyway this will not present extra work. Allow user who view the event to then see what items have been bought enough and what is in excess Give administration a way to publish targets and to mark certain items as critical or to prioritize each item.

Tumblr app for Android

Currently sucks. Well I wouldnt say it completely sucks but there are a lot of major annoyances with it that just make me search for tumblr on Android market. In fact lemme do a search now. Gimme a minute.

Ok so there is my tumblr which is pretty ok but still isn't good enough. I couldn't find my drafts. So what needs to be fixed with the official tumblr app?

Several things

First. Tags. I need to remember the tags I put. Cant I have auto complete?

Second. Layout. When I'm typing I want the post and cancel button to be hidden till I close keyboard. That or make it a rectangle. Or put some padding between it and the border next to the keyboard since I have more than once hit either button when typing really fast. Favour. Just hide it. One extra tap. In this case it won't kill.

Third. Check this out. Point one Point two Point three I'm expecting all of this to come out on one line looking really odd when in fact what I did was press enter and leave just one line. This app is so broken that if you hit enter once it doesn't insert the paragraph tags. I guess I could do that myself but really? No. I just want a new line.

Four. Super pain point. If you get a call while writing a post... you lose everything between your last save and that call. No this one is just unacceptable. I can't check a message without losing everything. State change save anyone? Please fix this

Five. The tweet system is I believe the tumblr default? Please change it anyway. It actually drops a preview of the entire post looking rather odd. What ought to be there? Title of blog: Title of post. Oh and I'd like to be able to prefix my own message to it.

Six. Facebook update. Wth? The title of a post isn't linked to the post. Preview of text and if you want to view post you have to click on the go to post link which is along the line of fb links, report, share, like and whatnot. No. No and no! Please give preview of post and a blooming READ MORE link to it. Geez. Basics.

Apart from this stuff... Keep it real because the app for tumblr currently has everything else... I think.

Its funny you created this page. I have had the very same "idea" about my ideas for some time. I feel like I have lots of great ideas, but no way to implement them without proper funding. So I never follow through with them and thought about just sharing them with the world as they serve no purpose bottled up inside me. Kudos for starting this and Good Luck!

thanks a lot! took a lot of talking to myself to let the ideas out where anyone can take them. But told myself it's a good thing if people can go somewhere with em. Besides. It'll keep my mind active with coming up with ideas so if one goes well, another one will come :). I have started working on some stuff though ;). Weekends only. So it will take some time to come out

Blogger web app/native app for Android

Did you know the blogger for Android app currently doesn't reach out to everyone? Sucks I know. There is one pretty good app but I can think of several UI revamps it could use BADLY!

What I find amazing is that Google doesn't have their own web app yet for Blogger

So there be two alternatives. One would be to try and break in to the app market with a universally available app for Blogger. Suggestion would be to make it a fully fledged Blogging client with support for any blog that follows the standard protocol.

Second suggestion is to focus on Blogger and make a future proof mobile version of Blogger for web. Then if Google ever tries to beat it, well you can make it a complete blogging management tool online for most any type of blog.

There's also features of sharing across social networks and if you can afford servers then you can try and add a tumblr like publish on/queue feature to publish posts at a later time.

Ticket sales page setup

Sense a strong need to setup ticket pages which are auto themed and most importantly scalable

For events where online ticket sales are needed create a service which lets people quickly create ticket purchasing portals

Allow for themes to be used Event description pages Countdown plugins. In fact have several drag and drop plugins that can be used. Make service free for first 100 ticket purchases Have several pricing options?

Question of how to set up payment is there. Need to research

More paid services can include analytics where applicable

Video dub for Android

So today at work there was a power outage and during that time I was seated outside enjoying the sea breeze and I fell asleep. My friends had a bit of fun by recording me and adding a paper cap on my head while they were at it.

Besides the point. Did you know that there is no proper video dubbing software for android? That can be found easily that is.

Hmmm, I might build up on this idea later. I'm thinking there's room for a service which provides special sound effects and what not and a petty good editing tool set. But at the core would be very easy to use.

Facebook game idea - 30 first dates

Disclaimer. This has nothing to do with the current fb app crush or breakup notifier. But this is a pretty good example of what I meant by I have ideas and see someone else get to them first which I look at as an indication that these ideas could make it somewhere. But now that there is a similar idea out there this will be filed under the fill gap category instead of brand new.

From rough idea dumped onto evernote

Game to take advantage of the fact that many relationships currently build up online. Online version of blind dates in a way. 30 anonymous dates

why? Single people on fb with no real idea of what they might be looking for in a person. The app tries to act as a mediator for conversations.

Works as follows. person A signs up for service. App searches for single people out there who have a matching gender preference and sends anonymous mail to them asking then to sign up for service. If a person B accepts then they also can connect with singles within their friend network who also then get the anonymous mail which helps the game go viral. Potential pitfall here is age. Use the formula given by xkcd to make sure correct match is made or let user specify age ranges where age ranges are within the range defined in that formula to prevent possible pedophiles (can happen).

Next step is that the people use the application which then partners the user up with another friend randomly who is using the application within an anonymous chat room.

What happens then is that the two people can go on cyber dates. Thirty of them. They get to know each other as people, no names attached. At the end of the 30 dates they can choose to reveal their real profiles to each other if they think that they match. Both parties must agree to this. To save face if only one party agrees to this then data of either party is still not revealed.

Parties can choose to opt of the 30 dates if they feel that it isn't going well. Potential pitfall here with room for trolls so this needs to be addressed. Possibly with some kind of reputation or rather a break off limit. other stuff. Room for gifts during dates. Move beyond chat room. Environments... Though this is a lot of work. Stream movies together. Money money money. Add engine to watch you tube vids within the chat experience

Look out for lawsuits over name

Consider Keep default at 30 dates or let user pay to change number of dates

Last descriptive post

Before I get started with publishing the ideas. I'll try and divide the stuff into categories where the ideas will either be a) brand new ideas This category will mostly consist of ideas which work on closing up problems that have not been identified or rather addressed adequately. b) fill in the gap ideas These ideas will build up on existing services and already existing ideas which I believe are broken or do not serve the purpose correctly. c) feature ideas and missing areas These are more for practice of improving existing software which is also a way of me trying to get recognized in the world of startups. And by missing areas I mean stuff like for example, currently there no proper hotmail client for Android. Ok that isn't much but you get the idea. In these latter cases I'm not suggesting anything solid but giving a hint to problem areas that could be addressed.

So with that. Get ready. First idea(s) coming out tomorrow :)

Point to note

The ideas should start coming up fairly soon. Either tomorrow or day after. Was having another set of selfish thoughts of whether or not to publish the ideas but what the heck.

In the mean time however please note that I have now added a creative commons license to the website. That means that should any ideas be used you are required to let me know. This isn't about ego it's necessary to me if I want to try and connect with silicon valley.

Just to wrap up, I'm going to busy myself learning ruby or python and well essentially the fundamentals of building web apps so I can also start working on ideas of my own if I want to.

Again I apologise if I come off sounding like someone who thinks he has the greatest ideas in the world. But reality is I have a dream and I'm just trying to live it :).

How it's going to work

Having tried to contact people to get a valid answer to my questions about whether or not I can actually make money out of my ideas and more importantly connect with silicon valley while I'm at it, I decided that it's best that I go ahead as planned while I try to get that done.

One of the questions that came into my mind was how would I keep this blog as a repository for my ideas. And thus I came up with a methodology for this. The blog will work like so.

I get an idea when I'm sitting waiting for some meeting to start or just lying on bed. At this point I will post up the crude version of the idea which will mostly consist of burst ideas aka short statements which would probably constitute a rough rationale of the idea, features, monetization schemes and maybe foreseeable competition issues.

During the weekend I will look at what I dumped here and will then proceed to expand on the idea by first expanding the rough post into a detailed one.

Next, when I am free I will try to whittle down or expand the feature list until there is a proper scope and vision.

Since this takes time I will over a period of time release mock ups of screens and UI designs

At the same time I will complete building up a pitch for the idea if possible based on it's current state.

So that's it then. Do stay tuned. I have quite a few ideas that I've ben dumping onto evernote during the week. Might expand that list by another two ideas before beginning the dumpster.

After which I will try and get my blog published by mashable and/or read write web.

If there were any typos forgive me. I tried swyping the entire blog post. Yes. Posted off the tumblr client on my Android using a swype keyboard ;).

Finally before I forget, all posts sil get their own tag based on the name of the idea they are connected to which ought to make it easier to follow the trail of blog posts related to a single idea. Essential since I will be working on more them one idea at a time.

I felt selfish

That's me people. A bit selfish with ideas. I've always had ideas, lots of them. Some great. Others not so much. Plenty of ideas I've seen being taken to Silicon valley and monetized and invested in. As a result I've grown kind of closed with my ideas in the recent past thinking maybe I should develop and cash in. 

Then I realised that time is against me, social duty calls as I will never want to, God willing, leave this country while my parents are still alive since they sacrificed their own future to raise me as a good person. Therefore I know that many of the ideas I have will never become reality if I keep them bubbling inside of me. 

So I had another idea. I dish out the ideas and someone develops. Yes I know this idea is pretty much everywhere with a lot of people but I believe I was different. I wanted to do the designs, the feature lists, the scoping and if I could pitch in with developing heck yes I would. Therefore I wasn't exactly the "I got an idea but I'm too lazy to work on it but I deserve credit for it" guy either. But what it boiled down to was, one guy, lots of ideas, nothing doing.

So here's the deal. I'm willing to start posting ideas (and I look back with a lot of regret at ideas that popped into head that I never bothered recording down) and link them up with feature lists and designs to boot. Why? Because I'd like someone in life to get somewhere with these ideas if I don't. 

I know I may sound like an ego maniac thinking I have revolutionary ideas but no, I'm humble enough to know most of this won't work but strong enough to believe that with hard work someone could churn it into something useful. I don't usually call an idea an idea unless I think and can say "hey I'm solving something with this and it's viable!"

What's my wish? If you do actually work on it. Please, please, please tell me about it and refer people to me. I have a wish to get involved with tech startups and would love it if I could live this. I would love to work as a consultant (especially in design and features areas) from here in Sri Lanka, conference calling over the net discussing designs, iterations, product pitches (I'm a well recognised Toastmaster in Sri Lanka having made it to national level in all four conferences I have particpated in during my two years in this group). 

And of course, I will be putting up a link for people to donate money to so that if your startup makes it through and you feel like sharing the love, I would love to accept since that might actually open a way for me to make this a business in the end. Trust me, even 20,000 to 30,000$ for a year, (if that's what I received collectively from everyone I worked with) can go a more than LONG way in Sri Lanka in making ends meet.

Please read the above two paragraphs once more (or a few more times), and enjoy :) . I'll keep the ideas posted as much as I can which will probably happen over weekends.
