Recently I've been thinking why people are often more empathetic towards animals that people

It's racism first and foremost, obviously

But people also often think of animals as innocent beings incapable of wrongdoing, and people in distress or poverty as somehow "bringing it upon themselves"

We see this in the intense racism against people living in countries that suffer greatly from pollution, and those countries or regions somehow always just happen to be ex-colonies

People blame those people for littering or "fucking up their own ecology" which in their eyes justifies the suffering and health consequences they go through

Humans basically can never be innocent, their suffering is always somehow deserved, or their own fault, or we can just do nothing about it

It's basically "humans are the real disease" to conceal the fundamental inequalities and racism of the global economy

I want to be very clear that I am pro trans representation in games and supportive of trans headcanons, but I would argue that Chell is not trans. The model on the left was a placeholder for the player character in the trailer. That character is not Chell. You can headcanon that it is Chell, and that she somehow changed races and gender through Aperture science shenanigans- more power to you. But if you're going by the wiki, the character named Chell has always been modeled after a Brazilian-Japanese woman named Alésia Glidewell.

HOWEVER that does not discredit the claim that Tumblr as a website is run by transphobes and the mature content keyword system is inherently transphobic, especially towards trans women.
