Hey so I know we All Know This but I will NEVER be over a character being feverish and delirious and making No sense. I will never be over a glittery-eyed, shivering, distressed character weakly gripping another's arm and asking them questions they don't know the answer to, and probably don't mean anything at all. I will never be over characters calling out for people either long gone or right next to them, but unrecognizable in their delirium. I will never be over a character crying in frustration and fear over something in their head they can't explain to whoever is helping them, and all they can do in return is stroke their hair and shush them gently.
"I'm so tired," whumpee sobs into whumper's chest
whumper caresses them and runs a hand through whumpee's hair, "Shhh, I know. We're almost done"
An ordinarily very non-demonstrative character who, when confronted with an injured and distressed companion, suddenly becomes very public and unabashed with their affection; holding their companion's hand and petting their hair, calling them pet-names, holding or cuddling them- being openly tender and gentle in a manner they never are, elicited by their companion's distress.
Androgeus
The latest Villain makes things incredibly personal. Every member of the Team has been drugged/tortured/etc. in unique ways, ways designed specifically to destroy their greatest strengths and make them helpless. The powerful fighter is suddenly too weak to move. The genius suddenly can't think straight. The Leader is suddenly lost in a fog of paranoia and hallucinations.
Everyone has been affected in some way. Everyone, that is, except Whumpee. Whumpee, the most ordinary and unremarkable member of the entire Team. While everyone else is in varying states of bloodied, drugged, and brainwashed, Whumpee is...fine. Sure, they woke up in a cell like everyone else, but other than a few scrapes and bruises, they're untouched. Apparently, Villain didn't consider them a threat.
Of course, with Whumpee currently being the only properly functioning member of the Team, it falls to them to get everyone to safety. So Whumpee keeps going, ignoring the rising nausea, the worsening dizziness, and the vague stomach cramps that have been plaguing them ever since they woke up. They can't afford to stop and check themselves over. Not when the Team is counting on them.
It isn't until everyone is safe at last that Whumpee drops, the slow-acting poison Villain injected them with finally making itself known.
Security Units have morning routines too.
when a character is so badly hurt/sick that their demeanour switches up entirely
chatty characters pale-faced and silent
quiet and reserved characters rambling deliriously
character who always resorts to humour clearly trying to think of a quip but coming up empty
no-nonsense character so loopy that they can’t stop giggling
a stoic character’s hands trembling in panic
an easily frightened character so far out of it that they aren’t aware of what’s happening to them, much less afraid
intelligent characters who can’t think straight
protective (self-sacrificial) characters letting someone else take the fall for them because they’re too weak to object
patient characters snapping at whoever comes near
affectionate character who wants to be alone
lone wolf who begs you to stay a minute longer.
defanging a vampire keeps rattling around in my head. it brings good whump - but what about caretaking?
• caretaker taking the first look inside whumpee’s mouth; “oh that’s not good…” escapes their lips no matter how hard they try to stay calm
• caretaker helping whumpee feed; blood in elegant glasses - or funky mugs to cheer whumpee up a bit
• bonus: vampire caretaker biting the prey for whumpee and letting them feed naturally. it’s warm, it’s fresh, it feels almost the same
• caretaker making artificial fangs; they might be fully functional, imitating real vampire fangs, or just to fill in the holes, so that whumpee feels more comfortable
vampire curled up at your front door whimpering like a kicked stray puppy begging to come inside where it’s warm and cozy because it’s so so cold
It's very very cliche but I really do love inherent whump of vampires.
The pain of transformation, it can go on for as long as you want. The death of the body is something that can be immediate or very slow and visceral. Imagine Whumpee's teeth falling out one by one over days, getting replaced with razor sharp new ones. Imagine them coughing up liters upon liters of stale blood and innards because their body is rejecting itself.
(And of course there's the turning itself, which is almost always a form of symbolic rape. At the very least it's a loss of autonomy.)
There's also the mental rejection, refusing to drink blood, refusing to be a monster, starving oneself until you're too blood crazed to understand why you're doing it.
And of course, my favorite, when the sire is involved. I love the control that a Sire!Whumper can exert over Fledgling!Whumpee. They can force Whumpee to drink blood against their will, to do anything really. How much Whumpee can actually resist their commands is up to you.
I just love Whumper turning Whumpee into a monster and then convincing them that they are the only one who will ever love them how they are now.
The aching, cramping pain of moving a limb or fingers that have been exerted in one position for a long period of time as stiff muscles and locked-up joints are finally relaxed and a character gradually flexes mobility back into the limb or hand from its one frozen position.
A character telling a companion to go on without them and leave them here, that they have to split up, they're slowing them down- all the while keeping a deathgrip on the companion and showing no sign of physically letting go.
Blood dripping from a character's fingers which clearly originates from an injury far higher up their arm or shoulder but has run all the way down as their arm dangles loosely, their hand wetly stained with blood but uninjured beneath.
A character is rescued, but there's no time to fully remove their restraints, only just enough that they're able to escape wherever they're being held, so they're stumbling along with their rescuing companions with ropes or chains or cuffs dangling from their wrists or looped about them.
An injured character in enough pain that moving even slightly is excruciating but they need to reach out to their companion for comfort, no matter what it costs them, because the physical assurance of touching their companion is worth the additional pain.
The difference between willing and forced human shields- one, a character deliberately placing themself between a companion a threat, diving in front of them or pushing them behind themself, so determined to protect a companion as to place their own body in harm's way; the other, a character being manhandled into position, threatened or restrained to keep them between the character using them for protection and danger, being used as a physical shield or as deterrent to their companions in their line-of-fire.
