A PSA:
C.S. Lewis based the professor in the Narniad on his logic tutor, Kirkpatrick. Lewis fondly referred to him as “The Great Knock,” because his mind was so formidable. This is why the professor (in the books and movies) frequently says things like, “Think about it logically!,” or “What DO they teach these children in schools these days!”.
It is worth noting that Kirkpatrick was a huge reason that Lewis converted to Atheism.
C.S. Lewis slightly based Ransom in THE SPACE TRILOGY on J.R.R. Tolkien. Ransom is a philologist, which was one of Tolkien’s areas of expertise. That’s pretty much the only similarity.
Tolkien used Lewis’ booming voice as partial inspiration for Treebeard. Lewis isn’t Treebeard; they share a few similarities.
If one more person gets this wrong, then I will spit flames at them. All you have to do is read a credible article or biography on them to get it right.
Reblogging again, because I keep seeing those awful “Tolkien = Narnia Professor and Lewis = Treebeard!!1!” posts.
