Hola, i'm Calli, a nonbinary mexican parent. Both my partner and I are chronically ill, we're the main providers for our family of 9, that includes his mom, dad and sister because they lost everything in a fire back in November 2023. TW for the house after the fire

We are poor and unemployed, all adults have some chronic condition and we live constantly exposed to mold, rust and other issues the house has. The landlord does jackshit but sure comes to collect rent every now and then.

To top it off i have been getting harrassed by racist unkind people here, making me suicidal.

Edited June 1st: we got rent barely on time, thank you very much. The landlord was very pleased, so pleased he pressured us to get June's rent as fast as possible.

Things got heated with him, he isn't respecting the original deal we had so we will enter negotiations with the actual owner if we get hold of him soon.

Might make a new post but just making this update quickly before we lose power again, this is already the second time I try to before the lights go out.

Right now i just want to secure testosterone for our eldest, we finally found where to get vials, with $100 we could secure enough for a month and with $25 we could get a binder sent to us.

I found it really puzzling when I first went to the US. And in the US, they always praised themselves as champions of democracy and freedom. So I said, “Well, I experienced the Cultural Revolution. Why are you condemning the Cultural Revolution? Isn’t that democracy?” People responded, “No, it’s not.” And when I asked, “Oh, what is democracy then?” they just said, “Elections!” Okay, if elections are democracy, then what about the factories? I mean, I experienced a real, lively, daily type of democracy. We argued, debated, and we talked about freedom. I mean, of course, there’s a limit to what you can freely say. In the US, you can say anything you want, but you’re not free to criticize your boss. I mean, you could criticize your boss, but then you’d [be fired]. You’ve got to pay a price for it. So, I find it really puzzling when Western scholars, especially, are so into US democracy, freedom, and Western ideology, and condemn what was going on in the Cultural Revolution. The portrayal of China as an authoritarian regime is so contrary to the daily lives of the people. And that’s what’s incredible. I was working in a factory during Mao’s period for five years, and then I went to the US, where I worked in a factory for more than a dozen years. And the contrast cannot be more startling. After my five years in that Beijing factory, I don’t have a single memory of the workers being afraid of the people in the leadership. When the factory managers and people in the top leadership came, the workers just said, “God, I haven’t seen you in a long time,” in a sarcastic tone, as in, “You are so divorced from the masses.” To have an impact on what’s going on in the factory, you cannot just go by your own grievances. To have an impact, your grievances must be shared by a whole lot of people. So you have to have some kind of consensus among the workers, saying, “No, this is wrong.” Only then can you really make a change. However, it was a revolution under the dictatorship of the proletariat. What does that mean? That means you could not challenge socialism. If you had said, “Down with the Communist Party, down with Mao,” you would have been condemned by the population. Before the cops would’ve come to arrest you, you would’ve been beaten [by the people]. People were really into defending the new society.

Korean activists say Israeli captors physically and sexually assaulted flotilla activists

Doctors said that activists who were captured at sea while attempting to bring aid to Gaza were beaten to the point of severe muscle breakdo

Two Korean activists who were detained by Israeli forces after attempting to break the siege on Gaza and deliver aid recounted abusive treatment by their captors to local press on Thursday.

“After fully armed Israeli soldiers searched my body, I was dragged alone to a dark shipping container. The lights switched on, and whenever I looked at the light, they hit me in the face. Whenever my head was bowed, I was forced to look back up at the light,” said Kim A-hyun, 28, an anti-war activist who also goes by the name Haecho.

“[The Israeli soldiers] had tactical gloves on. After I was dealt a second blow to my cheek, I could hear a shrill sound in my ear. Following the third, I started to bleed from my nose and started to gag,” she said.

Kim Dong-hyeon, another activist who had participated in a humanitarian aid flotilla bound for the Gaza Strip, testified to similar conditions.

“My hands were tied, my body was searched, and I was continuously pummeled and kicked as I was being taken away. My wrists kept bleeding on account of having been bound so tightly, and I couldn’t feel my hands. My entire body, including my head and my legs, was in excruciating pain,” he said.

“When I started hyperventilating, I began to think that it was very likely that I might die,” he went on.

The two activists claim that they suffered serious health issues, including muscle damage and hearing loss, after being assaulted during their detention.

Kim A-hyun was diagnosed with a perforated eardrum as a result of the beatings she took to the face. Jonathan Victor “Seungjoon” Lee, a Korean American who was arrested alongside her, sustained a broken rib and other injuries after being tased.

“We are witnessing symptoms of rhabdomyolysis, which are usually apparent in victims of industrial accident cases involving crushes or those who have been severely injured in traffic accidents. The activists were released on Wednesday, but if that had been delayed by even a day and they had been subjected to more beatings, they would have suffered from severe harm,” said Dr. Lim Sang-hyuk, the director of Green Hospital.

The activists gave detailed testimonies of the abuse and torture they suffered during their arrest and aboard the prison boat.

“As soon as we boarded the boat, they pointed guns at us and subjected us to body searches. They hurled racist insults and curses at us the entire time. Male-passing people were tasered, while women and people perceived as female were subjected to sexual abuse,” said Kim A-hyun.
