With her bed, he acquaints himself while she is in the shower. The sheets are dark and the comforter is light with delicate floral. How oddly heartwarming yet fitting all at once.

From the doorway, he catches a glimpse of fur; it's Applesauce with a shoe in her mouth. Wait a moment. That's his shoe!

"Applesauce," he calls her name, stern and verging on upset. "Come here!"

Alana drops her off 15 minutes before 3PM.

Apple felt that if she had asked, she would have stayed. She would have stayed up until the moment Hannibal Lecter opened the door into his office. Pleasantries would have been shared, no doubt.

But Apple did not ask, so Alana did not wait. Just an hour. An hour of pulling teeth.

She sat quietly, bundled up in her winter clothes. Even with the warmth the home provided, she always felt cold.

When the door does open, Apple looks up.

            She does not make a sound.

Today is a patient he does not know. Today is apples and the blossoms that bloom about the trees. He looks expectantly to her visit. However, Alana does not seem to bother. Perhaps another time then.

Opening the door, he smiles. It is a smile that does not touch his eyes. Still, his voice is kind.

"Please, come in. Shall I take your coat?"

"Dr Lecter…" Mason sat down in his usual spot with a kind of crafted carelessness, the product of a mind that was all at once scattered and precisely focused. "Today, I would like to talk about some of my Papa’s business friends.”

Inwardly, he sighs. Relief washes over his conscience for his lounge is spared. Silently, he still fears for his leather seat. A moment of silence.

He is such an annoying guy! He knows everything about the human nature, the fruits, anything about the food, any kind of music, instruments from the last millennium… He’s really annoying in that sense. He’s also a psychiatrist who doesn’t necessarily want to hear his clients talk, which is rare. He likes to talk himself.
