Following the high profile banning of Donald Trump on Twitter, we wanted to post a quick reminder, courtesy of @cyber.civics of how to use social media to raise your voices responsibly.
This year's National Youth Social Action Survey shows that young people are engaged, but not necessarily empowered. We are one of many organisations working hard to develop young people's skills so that they can fulfil their potential. "A Beautiful Noise"
I have a voice Started out a whisper, turned into a scream Made a beautiful noise Shoulder to shoulder, marching in the street When you're all alone, it's a quiet breeze But when you band together, it's a choir Of thunder and rain Now we have a choice 'Cause I have a voice I'm not living to die Don't stand in a wasteland Look at me in the eye Stop living a lie And stand up next to me You've got to put one foot in front of another With a hand in a hand holding on to each other Go on and rejoice 'Cause you have a voice It is loud, it is clear It's stronger than your fear It's believing you belong It's calling out the wrong From the silence of my sisters To the violence of my brother We can, we can rage Against the river Feel the pain of another I have a voice I have a voice And I let it speak for the ones who aren't yet running free It's killing me No one's saying what we need to hear I will not let silence win When I see all the pain our people are in There's no other choice 'Cause I have a voice It is loud, it is clear It's stronger than your fear It's believing you belong It's for calling out the wrong From the mouths of our mothers To the lips of our daughters We can, we can dream Like our brothers speaking loud like our fathers We can, we can heal Can you hear us? Can you hear us now? I have a voice Started out as a whisper, turned into a scream Made a beautiful noise Shoulder to shoulder, marching in the street When you're all alone, it's a quiet breeze But when you stand together, it's a choir Of thunder and rain Now we have a choice 'Cause I have a voice Now we have a choice 'Cause I have a voice Now we have a choice 'Cause I have a voice
This week we ran a virtual week of work experience through @speakers4schools. It was inspiring, fun and full of energy.
I have A Voice tasked them with creating their own political campaigns and the results blew us away! Empower young people and they will achieve great things.
This was all done within a week imagine what the world would be like if we gave all young people time and support to create change on the issues that matter them - issues that should matter to us all. [26-30 Oct 2020]
Purple Tuesday and the Disability Confident Scheme
PURPLE TUESDAY: ONLY 0.29% OF EMPLOYERS ARE DISABILITY CONFIDENT
[Blog post 3 Nov 2020]
In our last post we referred to a think tank report and a public opinion survey.
What is a think tank?
Who conducts public opinion surveys and why?
How do both of these inform public policy decisions?
What would a job entail at either of these types of organisation?
Monday Motivation #7
A bit of a different Monday Motivation this week. These women have inspired me with their voices.
How will you use your voice this week?
What will you use it to speak up about?
How will you make sure that you're heard?

NEW REPORT: A level results in England and the impact on university admissions in 2020-21
The UK House of Commons library has published a briefing on A level results and university admissions. It is worth a read for prospective students and their parents. https://commonslibrary.parliament.uk/research-briefings/cbp-8989/
We are delighted to announce that we will be hosting our first live IGTV interview on Tuesday 25th August with Diana Greber, Founder of @cyber.civics and author of Raising Humans in a Digital World.
We will be talking about digital citizenship, media literacy & much more. Plus you'll have chance to put your questions to Diana.

Thank you to @courtneyahndesign for sharing your journey and guidance with our ambassadors.
It is inspiring that you use your voice to speak up about issues that have a significant impact on so many people.
Hearing about the amount of time you put into research and ensuring the high quality of your content is not surprising, but a helpful reminder to be thoughtful when using social media to talk about emotive issues.
We learnt so much from your advice! Thank you!
Monday Motivation #6
Let’s Get Your Voices Heard
Seeing those we work with flourish is the biggest motivator of them all. Samantha is still campaigning, see @justice.4.you If you have an issue you care about and want help getting your voice heard get in touch (link in bio).
Our first Ambassador Newsletter has three calls to action:
Sign our petition to get fast fashion on the curriculum
Share your stories about racial inequality ~ be part of the narrative that makes the change
Ask your employer to become disability confident.
Monday Motivation #5
Let’s Teach Politics To Everyone
Learning about politics is fundamental to democracy. At I have a voice we show people how they can put political knowledge into action on the issues that matter to them.
Giving everyone a voice leads to diversity of thought and experience; and creating a space for debate allows people to challenge one another in a way that promotes a deeper understanding of both their own and others' views.
It also helps people to understand if decisions being made by politicians are in their best interest and to scrutinise officials elected into power.
