i can't stop thinking about buck's conversation with his dad. when was the last time philip heard buck say "i love you" with that much sincerity and emotion and not just obligation? when he was a kid and not yet aware of how little love he was getting in return? and now he hears buck say it (with tears in his eyes) and it's because philip has essentially said "i'm not really your dad and i accept that i never will be - and that bobby was - i'm setting you free of having to pretend that's what i am to you." i mean it's true and honestly what philip deserves for his years of neglect and poor treatment of buck, but damn.

buck really was going to die in that house if it meant eddie lived. he was going to live the rest of his life trapped and broken and isolated pretending to be someone else. to be someone else’s son after living his entire life trying and failing to be the son his actual parents wanted. he was going to do that for eddie. and only escaped because he thought eddie had been shot.
