remus: can you hand me that book
sirius: fuck. say that again, exactly how you said it the first time. oh nevermind, it won’t ever be the same. but that was perfect. utterly magnificent. “can you hand me that book” jesus, moons. jesus. great execution. have you ever taken a speech class? i’m floored. will you record a podcast for me so i can listen to you when i fall asleep? asking for a friend. the friend is me.
in the au where the wizarding world handles things a little more logically (like, say, checking sirius and peter’s wands for who cast the blasting spell) and sirius doesn’t go to azkaban
sirius ends up raising harry
and obviously remus is along to make sure sirius doesn’t either a: spoil harry into oblivion or b: accidentally kill harry
so harry, growing up with them, goes to hogwarts, and gets someone who asks the question of “do you have a mum” and harry replies with “sort of, i have a moony.”
and sirius hears about this on holiday and starts referring to remus as “moomy” bc he’s horrible
and after some time of this, remus just finally turns around and gives sirius a completely deadpan look and just says
“dadfoot”
so i’ve been thinking a lot about that post doing the rounds about dumbledore and how he’s a piece of shit bc he should have realised sirius was innocent instead of letting him rot in azkaban for twelve years and a very big part of me agrees but at the same time i think there was another, much bigger factor at play here that goes way beyond dumbledore mindlessly agreeing with the version of events presented to him about sirius’s guilt

I discovered this absolutely brilliant essay (http://elwing-alcyone.livejournal.com/11152.html), more than a decade after it had been written, posted when I still had no idea who Harry Potter was, let alone Wolfstar. Firstly, I would like to thank the author for leaving it there for future generations of fans to find, it’s amazing to read something from a time when the series had not yet been completed, when nothing was set in stone and everything was open to speculation and interpretation, when I was still a naïve child apt to take everything at face value. That’s something that I really value about the blogging culture of the past (long opinion posts) and something that I don’t really appreciate about Tumblr – I think it tends to encourage photo reblogs and other more short term forms of fan activity, which is more transient and falls off radars after a while, whereas something like this essay is still being stumbled upon and read by fans like myself a full eleven years after it was written (almost as long as Remus and Sirius were parted, if I may add :P)
I think that this pretty much sums up everything I have to say about their love being canon. I also want to emphasize the disparity between Remus’ treatment of Sirius and Peter; that is the most compelling argument in favour of Wolfstar being canon, in my humble opinion. When Sirius, Remus and Peter reunite, there are several plausible reasons why Peter should be alive – to escape from Sirius’ wrath and thus be awarded the Order of Merlin posthumously (because being blown up by a mass murderer while trying to stop him is way more heroic than running away from him), for instance. Yet Remus embraces Sirius before that is cleared up, right after Peter is revealed to be alive yet before any explanations are provided – as Elwing puts it, it almost seems as though he has a vested interest in believing Sirius is innocent. That reaction, which strikes me as grasping at any straw that Sirius might be innocent, even at the expense of Peter, is startling considering that this is a man the wizarding world believes murdered two of Remus’ best friends in cold blood, that Remus had ample reason to hate and time to learn to hate. This is completely removed from his attitude towards Peter, who as one of the Marauders should be as close as Sirius is to Remus (if they were just friends), if not closer since James and Sirius are the ones consistently characterized as inseparable, leaving Remus and Peter to gravitate towards each other, but it is Sirius that Remus believes innocent, and it is Sirius that Remus obviously cares for more. I can’t bring myself to believe that no one cared about Peter; I genuinely want to believe that Peter was a vital part of the Marauders, and not just the tag-along that he is often portrayed to be. If this was the case and considering Remus hardly gives Peter a chance to explain himself (killing Peter on sight is in line with Sirius’ characterization, but not Remus’) while seeming almost desperate to convince himself that Sirius is innocent, and taking into account Remus’ usual objectivity and the fact that he had 12 years to cultivate charitable thoughts towards Peter and convince himself that Sirius was a murderer (dispelled in an instant, you realize), that’s very compelling evidence that they did share a special bond. You wouldn’t be so eager to condemn one of your old friends unless you cared for the person who stood to gain from it exceptionally deeply.
Sirius finds out after the Prank. He sits miserably through Dumbledore’s stern warnings and Snape’s spitting rage and the only thought running through his mind is Remus, transforming alone for the first time in forever, without his friends to stop him from turning those claws upon himself. When Sirius finally makes his way down to the Shack it is daybreak and James and Peter are there, glaring at him in disgust but Sirius only has eyes for Remus and he nearly weeps when he sees those cuts and wounds that he as good as inflicted running over Remus’ deathly white skin. He refuses to go to class that day and sits instead by Remus’ bedside, willing Remus to wake and yet terrified of seeing accusation and hatred in those amber eyes. Sirius knows he will never forgive himself, even if Remus does. He wonders why his heart is breaking when it is Remus whom he has hurt.
James finds out over the holidays. Sirius turns up at his house unexpectedly, looking thoroughly disheveled and murmuring something about being disowned. The Potters welcome him, of course. James is ecstatic at having his best friend around, but realizes after a few days that Sirius is unusually moody despite James planning all kinds of activities and mischief and basically trying his best to make Sirius feel at home and Sirius trying his best to respond with enthusiasm. James wonders if leaving his family hit Sirius harder than he lets on, but Sirius is so clearly glad to have seen the last of the House of Black forever that James starts thinking of other possibilities.
He finally manages to get it out of Sirius one night, when he mentions Lily and how much he misses her and Sirius seems to understand, really understand, and he guilt-trips Sirius into confiding in him. James then invites Remus over for the holidays and Sirius regains his usual exuberance and James is really glad to have old Sirius back and pretends to look the other way when Sirius and Remus furtively kiss.
Peter finds out when he finds himself unexpectedly lonely during seventh year. James’ time is divided between his Head Boy duties, Quidditch practices and courting Lily; Remus is more often than not holed up in the library, being the only one foolhardy enough to continue History of Magic at NEWT level; and Sirius manages to disappear with absolutely no explanations. Peter sits in the common room bored out of his mind, resenting the girls who normally clamour to be the ones sitting the closest to the Marauders but scarcely pay him a second glance upon seeing him alone, and resenting his exclusion from the realms of Quidditch, girls and knowledge that his friends are so at home in. He idly taps on the Marauders’ Map, thinking that Marauding is perhaps not as fun as the sole Marauder, but a movement catches his eye and makes him peer at the Map more intensely.
Unlike his friends, Peter does not need the Cloak to spy or to remain unseen, and Peter the rat is soon scurrying down a deserted corridor. Hardly anyone would be headed to the library on such a fine day, save Remus, Peter, and as the map has so clearly proven, Sirius. He is wondering what mischief Sirius is up to and thinking that he can always study with Remus as a back-up plan when he sees something that makes him stop dead in his tracks. Sirius’ hand is cupping Remus’ jaw and Remus’ arms are around Sirius and they are undeniably, indisputably kissing. As Peter watches Remus pulls away and mutters something about having to finish the essay, but Sirius bends down for another more insistent kiss.
Peter does not know what to think. He is shocked, and feels somewhat betrayed that his friends did not tell him, when he sees now that James obviously knew from all those snide comments (“Really, I don’t even need the Map to know where you’re going” etc.). He is also jealous, as he suddenly realizes with astounding clarity that while James has Lily and Sirius so obviously has Remus, he, Peter, is alone. When they graduate from Hogwarts, there will be no more Marauders, only marriages, and houses, and careers, and JamesLily and SiriusRemus, and no one will have time for Peter. To his friends, he, Peter, will always be second place.
(Apologies for not writing Remus, I tried but I don’t do him justice at all, please forgive my Sirius case of Favourite Character Syndrome :P)
Everyone knows about “bickering like an old married couple”, but no one seems to notice that “please my boyfriend and I have lots of chemistry already, bugger off and go set some other people up” is Sirius’ response.
Just saw this about how Wolfstar is McGonagall’s OTP, so…
Nothing can prepare her for the shock of seeing Remus for the first time in 13 years. She takes in his thinness and tatty robes and the silver in his brown hair. He is as mild-mannered as ever and his easy smiles remain, but his eyes are guarded and his smiles wary. Her compassion towards her former student and anger at what he had to go through are overwhelming and she struggles to compose herself as she greets him.
She notices that his eyes lingers on the photo on the front page of the Daily Prophet for a long, long time, as if struggling to come to terms with the person that Sirius Black has become.
She feels a sense of pride whenever she hears students mentioning how much they like his classes. She remembers an earnest fifteen year old telling her that he wanted beyond anything to teach, only it didn’t really matter what his dreams were because they would never come true anyway. She is glad that this one, at least, came true.
They have tea in her office, one day. He is articulate and enthusiastic when he tells her about his classes and students, but hesitant and evasive when she asks him about his life. She tells him to use her name, but he still calls her “Professor”.
She is in the Three Broomsticks, with the Minister of Magic and her colleagues, and as she thinks about how the charming boy who was Sirius Black went on to kill 2 of his best friends and harmed irreparably the one who cared for him the most she can’t keep the bitterness from her voice. She talks about James Potter and Peter Pettigrew but not of Remus Lupin; she knows the Minister would object to having someone previously known to be friends with Sirius teaching at Hogwarts, and further prying might cause them to discover his secret and him to lose the only wizarding job he had in the last 12 years.
It is a lot to take in over the course of a single night, and so much had happened from the moment Albus had knocked on her door, hastily whispered that Sirius Black was actually innocent and asked her to keep Cornelius Fudge in his office far from where Sirius Black was. She is furious at Severus for betraying Remus’ secret and she conveys her withering disapproval of his actions in a few curt words. As she bids Remus farewell she notices a slight difference in the way he smiles, with a hint of carefree happiness that she had not seen in 13 years. She remembers the boys that used to furtively kiss in the potions closet and she wishes them luck.
I know the books were written from Harry’s POV but I would really have liked to see more interactions between characters like McGonagall and Remus because they have quite an interesting relationship from student and teacher to colleagues and it must have been sort of awkward for Remus because McGonagall practically saw him grow up (and fall in love with Sirius). She obviously cares for her students very much and would probably be secretly proud of Remus for being such a great teacher because she always knew that he could do it.
Uhhh... Wolfstar head cannon thingy (if you're still doing those): They're McGonagall's OTP...
it starts when she sees sirius flopped over remus’s lap in the library in their fourth year (he’s literally using remus as a human couch at this point)
she doesn’t think much about it—just that it was odd for a pair of teenage boys to be doing and she’s never seen sirius do that with any other student…and he’s done some pretty careless things in his days, she would know
and then and the final meal of the year (4th) she spots remus with his arm around sirius’s shoulder and they’re laughing and having a good time
it’s just something about the way they act when they’re around each other that gets to her and feels…odd
she doesn’t think about it until she sees sirius’s arm wrapped tightly around remus’s waist and she just knows
she’s seen it all along- in they way they bump shoulders in transfiguration or how sirius flings food at remus and remus just stares
and later that year she catches them snogging in the potions closet and she makes them leave but doesn’t say anything about it
because she knows how much remus struggles and how nice he is and how much he deserves sirius’s compassion even if sirius has a tendency to put the school in a mad frantic
send me person/people + thing and i’ll write you stuff
sirius snapping at someone and remus saying to them “it’s alright his bark’s worse than his bite” and sirius tries to hide a laugh and ends up choking on air and remus pats him on the back, smirking to himself
Remus and Sirius are in the library. They’re supposed to be studying but obviously Sirius isn’t reading like he’s supposed to be. He’s staring at Remus. Remus looks up and they make eye contact. Sirius smiles and gives a sly wink. Remus pauses a moment, blushes, smiles shyly, returns the wink, and goes back to his studies.
Remus not being able to throw out Sirius’ things after he is sent to Azkaban and he sleeps in Sirius’ sweaters and wears his leather jacket around until the smell of the other man starts to fade away and even then he still clings to them at night, imagining that Sirius is laying there next to him every night.
Sirius and Remus are watching Harry for the afternoon while Lily and James are out, and Remus is changing Harry and making silly faces and babbling right back at him when he notices Sirius has gone quiet. He looks up to find Sirius watching them with a strange look on his face.
"What?" Remus asks.
"Nothing. Just — you’d make a good dad," Sirius blurts out.
Remus turns red, then a slow, pleased smile spreads across his face. “So would you.”
That’s the night they start talking about adoption.
sirius pulling his motorcycle helmet off as he comes in the door at night and kissing a sleeping remus (on the couch is the only way he sleeps nowadays, waiting), lying down next to him and watching shitty tv as remus pretends to sleep, even though he’s just enjoying the feel of sirius’s hand in his.
Remus surprises Sirius by buying a leather jacket and pants so they can ride together and calls him into the garage where he’s laying back casually on the bike. Sirius faints.
*whispers* imagine remus reading in the park after sirius dies and he sees a big black dog running and playing with its owner and he just fucking breaks down sobbing in the middle of the park
James and Sirius not at all minding when Remus and Lily go out together for dinners/shows etc. because when they’re together it looks like they’re a couple so no one tries to hit on either of them
Lily and Remus also not at all minding when James and Sirius go out together because it looks like they’re a couple so no one tries to hit on them
